was at broken bay FAD sunday morning - the water was 20.5c most of the way (green) untill about 4 miles from the fad it jumped to 23.5c and glorious blue. could explain the marlin you hooked!
managed 3 x dollies undersized. there were heaps there jumping around but shy. nice marlin bait ! all were caught on pilchards and 1st 1/2 hour of light. looking forward to them growing up.
got a few nanniguy at 60metres on the way back. nothing else.

Thanks for the heads up as always. Going to try broken bay fad tomorrow , anyone been there or other fad today?
-
Yep, same again, thanks you saved me $50 bucks fuel and 5 hours sleep.
-
I'm going to try one next time. Could have bagged 200 of them

Could only get live yakkas past the sweep. They were especially hungry. Are these sweep useful for anything ? Ps if they were good to eat we would see them in the shop and they'd be more difficult to catch.!
-
Took an early visit in close at long reef today searching for a king. No kings but managed a nice 53cm snapper on my king rig - live yakka . Best bye catch I've managed !
-
Genius! Surely PhotoShoped? Respect my friend!!!!
-
try a running knife jig (swivel will stop it) which will provide a flash and keep the yakka down. knock the motor in and out of gear or zigzag your course to give the yakka a breather.
i've had the most success around close to bommies/structure when trolling outside & mainly in warmer water.

Thanks for the report Garry, what an awesome story. You estimated it at 30kg when i saw you so you were spot on. it looked 40kg in the flesh to me!
Freakish effort all round - legend status!
-
a neighbour of mine got a couple of salmon recently half way up mooney creek!
maybe they like to eat oysters as entre!

i don't know of any spots in the main river. broken bay and pittwater & hold southern calamari and arrow squid around the weed/rock beds.
would love to know any hawkesbury squid spots as well....

yes that is the guy i saw.
thanks for digging out the photos a few mates have been calling me a lier and now i have proof.
believe it or not, that fish looked even bigger in the flesh!!

Hey raiders
my wife recently had a baby so i haven't been fishing for a long time . thats the sad news for me & i am struggling.
anyway as a desperate fisho i went for a drive down to parsely bay ramp last saturday & spotted a kayak which appeared to have a rather larger scaly creature in it. i couldn't believe my eyes but this bloke (lets call him legend) had nailed an estimated 25-30kg jew on SP out of the kayak.i notice his landing net was as big as it's head maximum so i can't believe how he landed it. his gear looked 10kg max an he told me it took40 minutes to get it in.
does anyone know this legend and what did it clock in at? SHOW YOUR FACE
i still can't believe what i saw it was a lobsided kayak!

well done on the hook up it sounds like you deserved it for a big effort mate
-
thanks evan, think i will give it a miss.
the CSIRO website sea temps are showing some good water on our way, so fingers crossed.
did you get much at east reef today? plenty of rats around there last week, are they still about?
-
G'day all,
would appreciate any feedback on whether the dollies have arrived yet off sydney. i notice some very warm water heading our way on the charts that should see them arrive soon.
last report i had was about 2 weeks ago (20 Dec) & there were only a few rat kings hanging about.
thinking about going tomorrow.
thanks

tell poor old burley machine to try 1-2 kwells/travel calm the night before with a shitload of water, then 2 in the morning. don't touch the piss 24 hours before as well (i know this is worse than spewing). if this fails it will be a first, i'd like to hear.
he must be keen to keep coming back for that punishmennt & earning that name. respect man.

Justin D,
Can't help myself but fish migrations and seasonal variations are slightly different each year. If you can honestly say that you dont have a session by the end summer where you and your crew bag on out kings, then you can point fingers at the fisheries and pro's.
The time you speak of when kings were everywhere in pittwater are those days and weeks when the temperatures and wind patterns are consisent. It won't be too long now!
2007 was one of the best years i've had on surface fish in and out of botany bay, averaging 15-20 mixed pelagics per session. This year there was nothing, nothing at all. Since the commercial guys cleaned up years ago, who do you suggest we blame for the fish dissapearing?
count me in on that petition. i couldn't imagine there would be a huge catch in pitty for them anyway, surely wouldn't send anyone broke!!

Hit the water with my mate Flute this morning. After picking up some livies at Barrenjoey (no kingies sighted) & a squid we headed for long reef. After burleying hard in close for a couple of hours for a couple of runs (rats) & a nice 50cm trevalley we decided to slowly head north home.
we noticed some birds working opposite Narrabeen in 35metres & decided to sound it out. The sounder looked very busy & turned out to be droves of slimeys - football fields of them. after getting a few in the tank we decided to downrig a few around & see what was rounding them up.
After 2 serious runs resulting in bust ups we weren't sure what was going on- big kings? . lucky 3rd, we decided to use a wire trace & the following bronzy was raised after about 30 minutes.........
We estimated it at about 2 metres long. after googling the species it is estimated at 100kg +
We cut it off to live another day.

further to the big fish in pittwater, i've heard from a mate that barrenjoey is producing plenty of rats. will be giving it a go for a little while tomorrow morning so i will post if we have any luck.

Fished good old Botany Bay today in search of a few kingfish , with all the reports it was decided a friday fish was on the cards .... Picked up some livies and had a look at all the general kingfish haunts , Towed livies around for what felt like hours when the Rod buckled and the reel started screaming . Now i was glad i choose the saragoosa reel and bluerose rod combo with 80lb line this morning as im sure this fish would have busted me off . Well luck was on my side and a 10 kg king was in the boat . Sadly it was the only fish for the day.....
Cheers Dogtooth .... John...
mate, i'd love a day when SADLY this is the only fish caught....... awesome
-
Ive got fish around all the usual haunts... none from Barrenjoey though.
Jack
nice one, will have to join you out there soon. good luck.
-
hey mate your sounder must be broken because Pitty is not dead at all! haha the average fish ive been gettin lately are around the 80cm mark.
Jack
Good to hear Jack, any areas on fire more than others?
-
jason,
got this fish on a small strip of fresh taylor (it was pestering me earlier).
i noticed the bream had a whole taylor in it's gut so it must have had taylor on it's mind! good luck.
