  1. I was in a similar position exactly 12 months ago, unfortunately I did not have an unlimited budget.

In short I needed a boat to use purely for offshore fishing, mostly trolling. I wanted a 4 stroke if possible and wanted lots of fuel capacity to head offshore and not have to worry.

I needed the boat to come in at about 2 tonnes so I could tow it with my jeep.

I test drove several boats and I ended up with a boat that I absolutely love. It would be hard to let this one go.

I ended up with a 6m Goldstar centre cabin, It has a 150hp yammie 4 stroke which has been faultless (touch wood). 200L of fuel and a 2.5m beam.

I bought this boat because it is the most stable boat that I have ever been in. I am a big bloke and even with a few mates on the same side it does not move. I never drive flat stick as I head offshore every trip and at 7 knots with the radio on we are very comfortable. In a 12 hour day with the engine on the whole time I usually end up using about 140l max, so it's good to know I still have 60l in there somewhere. The boat has a full centre cabin, no bunks, but I did not want that. The centre cab has plenty of walk around that anyone can fit around and it is all on the one level so everyone feels 100% safe even at the bow in a big swell.

I go to browns all the time and I bought it precisely for this, I had never seen a marlin until I bought this boat and we hooked 8 in a row ( not on the same trip ) we landed 5 and now I am addicted. I now only want to chase game fish. The boat has a very strong boarding ladder and all fittings are tough and over engineered. With outriggers and full electrics etc It cost just over 70 k but it does everything I want and more. It feels comfortable in all conditions and it has heaps and heaps of room. It feels like a 7m boat inside. Fishes 4 in comfort.

Only negative it will bang a little in short sharp chop, but it is a trade off for it's super super super stability on the troll or at rest.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  2. Hi mate,

    I have a 6m plate alloy centre cab with a 150hp yammie 4 stroke.

In a full 12 hour day trolling all day and just cruising between spots I normally use between 120 and 140 litres.

I have a 200l tank and at least I feel comfortable knowing if i fill up before each trip I have reserve.

Keeping it at the 200l mark should give you ample for a full day + enough in reserve for safety.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Guys / Girls,

The last 3 outings in the new boat have been fantastic, we have caught 3 marlin, 2 wahoo and some good dollies. The only problem has been that none of the marlin I have been mine.

I shelled out on the new boat and have put some mates onto their first Marlin. I say this jokingly as we have had a ball and I have traced 2 marlin, which was daunting at first.

Anyway, we have not been out for 8 weeks due to work / weather and I have been busting to get back out there.

Well myself and a mate headed out yesterday in hope of me finally getting a marlin - well job done.............

We headed out towards the shelf / browns and starting trolling 1km before the 12 mile.

We must have been trolling for about 40mins when shotgun goes nuts. It was my own outfit and i chose the lure so I truly consider that the marlin was mine.

The first run took almost every bit of line on the reel and i was at sunset. Only two onboard and we were trolling 5 lures and 2 teasers, with about 50 meters of line left i said to my mate - we are going to have to turn and chase / back up / anything otherwise i would get spooled.

I still don't know how this happened but shotgun went off - line was screaming but we saw a massive splash right next to the boat (5 meters) off the port side. Obviously there was a belly in the line, but how it was running and how it got to the boat so quick?? oh well. Anyway we only saw a splash not the fish - we assumed it was a marlin but were not 100%.

Anyway an hour and 5 mins later we swam and released what I think is a blue marlin - to say I am stoked is an understatement, my partner does not understand my excited but she lets me fish so i guess i can't complain.

We are new to game fishing - this has only been now my 4th trip to the shelf and the boat has raised a marlin every trip. I am wrapped.

With only two on board photo's / video was difficult. I forgot my video camera and still camera was flat.

Either way i have proof - my mate got video on his mobile phone and i got two stills on the iphone. One of my favourite rods became a short stroker, but who cares, the marlin box has been ticked.

    Job Done....bring on next Saturday.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  4. what a great day Josh! Well done.

If you don't mind me asking what lure did the damage on the Mahi Mahi?

    Hi mate,

The Dollie was caught on a Hollowpoint Small Magnum in Red and Black.

Last week i landed one slightly smaller on a Lumo Pakula cockroach so I guess that if they are around you should have a good chance on most lures.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  5. After reading your report, I think i can't resist to go that wide. Just wondering how far is the Brown Mountains from Rose Bay Boat Ramp? What fuel capacity is required? I got Stacer 525 and the previous owner told me it got 100lt tank under the deck (i'm not sure if he is telling me the truth). I also got a 20lt spare filled in the container. Would that me enuff?

Would u mind to give me the coordinates for brown mountains? I'm using navionics download from apple store which i use it everytime when i'm in water.

I'm new in boating and it would be great if u can guide me to Brown Mountains on your next trip so i can learn some boating techniques from u.

    Cheers macmac

    Hi mate,

I agree completely what the other guys have said - start heading out a little further each time and get a feel for the boat - you wont need to get to Browns Mountain to catch big fish.

I am new to game fishing but not boating and fishing - always stay within your limits and what you feel comfortable with. Try heading out the FAD off Sydney Harbour then head out wider as you are comfortable. I think I have been lucky the last couple of weeks - but we simply put the hours in.

    Goodluck mate and enjoy it.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  6. Josh!!! Awesome report man! Double hook-up on wahoo off Sydney....PLUS a marlin.

U Guys are on a roll! That new boat is raising some great fish.

Are we on for a sessiom soon????? :biggrin2:

    Cheers,

    Wacko.

Mate - I am gutted that i will be off the water for a couple of weeks as I have some work committments but after that I will be hitting the water pretty hard again.

We will have to do that fish hey!!!

    Cheers,

    Josh

  7. what a day josh i wish i had the fuel copacity to go to browns and game fishing is all i can think off now it must be the reel screeming that has me hooked

    cheers gary

    Thanks Gary,

I am new to all this - but i love it. The first time out for me was last saturday and i got smoked on 15kg by a a much bigger Marlin and Ping!!.

Now i want to try to catch one that size.

I recently got a new boat and the prerequisite non negotiable was a 4 stroke and a big fuel tank.

    Cheers,

    Josh
