  1. Guys just to give you the heads up moullinex point breakwall is closed for fishing. You will see the guards there everyday now. They have put up new no fishing signs and also no tresspasing signs as people have climbed over to fish at night. Towards the point a new fence has been erected with barbed wire. I know now they are enforcing these rules as police have charged a few fisherman and fisheries officers were with them. This will be an ongoing thing. So i hope this gives you guys the heads up.

  2. My only problem with beach fishing is the mess of cleaning up after it when I get home. But I enjoy sitting there in waders and relaxing while casting out big bait for a Jewfish hopefully. Everyone says they catch Bronze Whalers too off the beach all the time and even though that doesn't really interest me, it would definitely be amusing catching my first one of that too.

I have targeted the Jewfish for some time now, and would really love to catch one and the beach seems like an ok place to try.

Hi mate i have fished stanwell for the past 20 years.I have caught alot of big jewies off this beach. The best places to fish on that beach would be the southern end next to the boulders or directly in front of the surf club when the gutter is running there. The way i fish that beach is get there early afternoon and catch my mullet from the creek there either by trapping or by line. Live baiting or big fresh slabs of mullet, squid or bonito fillet are great as well.Use a longer trace for the slab baits and shorten the trace if using live baits. Dont cast out to far from the shore just behind the breakers as Stanwell usually holds deep gutters the fish use to hide right behind the shore dump. Anpther great by catch there is Gummy sharks which taste great. Another great beach is Garie on the southern end,Thirroul beach next to the reef on the northern or southern end.Mate I hope this gives you some insight to stanwell park put in the hours and figure out the pattern mate and you cant go wrong. Cheers

  3. Hi everyone,

I went for a fish with my mate Bill and the next door neighbours teenage

son Jonathan in the Bay yesterday. The young fella is only just starting to get into fishing so

he keeps asking to come along with us and learn the ropes.

After taking him out to Browns last week we thought the bay would be a good spot

to take him this time. Anyway we showed him the ppp and we were all into some fish

within 10mins. We ended up with 22 keepers all Trevs and a few Tailor, we even

managed to land a nice size squid on a peeled prawn. I wanted to put the squid

out as a bait, but Jonathan wouldn't have a bar of it. "To good tasting to waste as bait." he

says, so we let him keep it.

here's a pic of our catch.

    Well done great effort

  4. Hi guys another report for last night.

Me mate rang me to see if i was interested for a night bash at the northern beaches.I was already knocking on his door before he hung up the phone. Anyway got to our destination to find a nice hole which looked really fishy so we set up our gear and baited all four rods. The tide was low but we cast out and settled back and within half an hour i got a good whack on the rod with the squid strip. I struck hard and felt some weight :1fishing1: a very nice silver bream got him straight on the ice. Rebaited and threw it in the same area and nothing for about an hour when all hell broke lose as the tide started to come in. Rod one buckled a serious fish, the line started departing at the rate of knots, fought the beast for about 10minutes to see a healthy bronzie which put a smile on my dial. As i was mucking around with him rod 2 goes off so i ran over and left my mate to deal with the bronzie while i fought the fish. After a short fight i slid a nice salmon onto the sand which would of been around the 2.5kg mark. Got the hooks out and gave him his freedom. By this time my mate had released the bronzie and made his way over to the bucket to rebait. Then for the next hour and a half we went throught every single bait we had to offer was getting eaten by tailor, salmon, bream and sharks. We had a blast - a very memorable night. Got home to find the missus with a sour face not impressed :wife: but :05: . i had fun and thats what matters. Cheers guys

  5. Sounds like fun mate.

Even when the jew don't play the bronzies are always fun.

I honestly don't beleive in burleying a beach for jew though. You tend to attract the rubbish like rays & sharks & the jew don't have a chance.

Try fishing that hole with only a big, fresh bait. You will still get the odd shark but you will get a better shot at a jew.

    Well done.

    Cheers,

    Grant.

Thank guys for the feed back i thought the same way that you thought about burleying before i saw an old bloke down south many years ago burleying but he explained why and how he done it and i gave it ago and my success rate for jewies has been outstanding ever since so i kept at it.Anyway jewies are a funny fish they keep you addicted and committed for a life time.Cheers

  6. Hi all went for a fish on monday arvo with me mate to the Northern beachs.Got to our destination about 630pm to find a nice deep gutter, looked fishy so decided to start the burley going. Burleyed hard for about an hour before my 8wrap rod buckled over and this fish was running hard, i followed it down the beach for about forty metres before the beast slugged it out but i gained the advantage and within 5minutes washed up a nice Bronze Whaler of about a metre onto the sand. Passers by watched in horror as they were swiming in the same area about half hour before. Me and my mate had a laugh and rebaited with big strips of squid. I cast out and set the rod in the rod holder when a tourist came past for a chat just then the rod buckled over once again, the tourist bloke looked at me and i said what are you waiting for grab the rod, the bloke was more than happy to take on the beast. I stood back with my mate and had a laugh as this big beast took this guy up and down the beach we could only look on and laugh.About 7minutes later the bloke called out to us to give him a hand. I ran down into the wash and grabbed another Bronze Whaler which was well over the metre mark a solid fish, the guy was wrapped the Bronzie was realesed to fight and harrass another angler one day. Kept on burleying for another hour the top of tide when my Abu overhead let out a scream i ran down and set the hoks the fish felt solid, ran hard but was no match for the heavy gear as a healty salmon was washed up on the sand and was put in the bucket for our fresh supply of bait. Had one fresh strip left put it on my 9/0 Gammis and sent it back out when i didnt even have time to put the rod in the rod holder when the rod buckled and a salmon was washed up onto the sand in no time. i filleted the salmon and put on a strip sent it into the gutter feeling confident. Nothing nothing then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz big scream from my Abu ran over and the fish had droped the bait disappointed oh well it will have me coming back like a bad addiction next week nothing else for the night. :1fishing1::mad3:

  7. Hey guys,

Well after not fishing for a very long time me and a couple of mates decided to hit the harbour today as all the wives were at a kitchen tea...

We met up at Tunks ramp at 10.00am with the plan to catch some squid and then see if any kings were around.

Squid was not too hard and we had 9 within 45 minutes so we then decided to head to some of the Middle harbour wrecks...

Got to the first 2 locations and nothin was showing on the sounder but the Sailors bay wreck was showing heaps of life.

We threw down some squid and within seconds it was taken bu a 70cm king, then another and another.

We finished all our squid within 5 minutes and could still see heaps of kings on the sounder so decided to try 80 to 120 gram jigs and the kings went crazy for them..

We boated another 10 or so in 20 minutes and then they went jig shy.....

The biggest king went over 80cm but as normal they were winter kings in cold water so there did not fight to summer standards.....

All in all a good day though and it was good to be on the water again.

  8. G'day all

After living in the St George district my whole life i got married just over a year ago and moved into the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Problems is all the jewie spots i know are either in southern sydney or the northern parts. Just wondering if anyone out there has fished the eastern suburbs (landbased) for jewfish??

Im not asking for exact spots but any info would be greatly appreciated as its become too difficult to travel in the winter months to my usual haunts.

Hi ali mate if you would like to get some jewies try the piers in the harbour but you will need live baits or fresh squid and a long gaff. Also you could try places around Rose bay near the sea planes usually holds alot of bait and the jewies wont be to far off. Try the breakwall at botany Moullinex pt with live baits eg Tailor or yellow tail.

  9. Hi All,

Just got back from a quick session. I have fished this spot quite a few times in the past 3 years ....

BUT i spoke to someone today and decided to change my technique. I usually fish the run up,

but this time I wanted to fish the last of the run out and the dead low.

    PLUS

I fished without any weight at all - land based. I started at 8.00 pm - through out 2 squid and

waited ... right on dead low I got nailed and caught this nice 5kg jew. what was interesting though

is that the bait would have been mid water - in 70 foot of water ... will be trying this again from

now on. I also got another hit but it spat the bait. OH yeh, had a nice South Westerly smacking me

in the face which made throwing out unweighted baits HARD !!!
