  1. Hi Raiders, i had a frustrating time on Saturday, flicked around various markers and reefs and could not manage a hook up. I could see the Kings chasing the lure all the way to the boat.

Check out this little Vid, i slowed down the vido where you can see the King hit the Lure, it pinged me straight away. that will teach me, trying to catch kings on my 4 pound Flattie gear! lol.

All in all a bit of fun.

  2. Hello,

Now, I heard something today that I cannot explain. I wasn't just 'hearing things' as my wife has since suggested. I had a mate on board with me and he and I stood in amazement for at leat 20 seconds trying to work out what the noise was.

Today, just after 6am, my mate and I were fishing just off the groins at Kurnell. We mentioned how peaceful it was without the passenger jets coming into land over our heads. No sooner had this been mentioned and in they came.

After the second plane had passed over us and had well and truely landed, a small low cloud passed right over the top of us, and that is when things got weird (please keep in mind the cloud was above us and not on the same line the passenger jets were coming in on).

For about 20 seconds we listened to what I can only describe as a high pitched sound bounce around seemingly between us and the low passing cloud. The sound moved around, left to right and up and down, but seemingly was 'attached' in someway to the cloud. The sound appeared to be between the water and the cloud. The best way to describe the sound is like someone had shrunk an F1-11 and it was screaming around above us, of air moving really fast and hard.

There was definately no other aircraft in the area.

Now, I know what you guys are currently thinking - this bloke is a crackpot. Next he will tell us he was abducted by an alien and probed inappropriately.

Please believe me, I am a rational and reasonable person. I just cannot for the life of me work out what the noise was. My mate is stumped as well. I had my bloody brand new iPhone in my pocket too, but I was so amazed by the sounds, I just didn't think to get it out.

So, if anyone has heard this before, if you think you might know what it is, or if you were the guy in the pedalpowered Hobie kayak or the other bloke in the runabout just off Bonner Point at 6am this morning, let me know if you heard it.

    Matt

yeah i get this all the time, i live out at leichhardt so when a southerly blows we are the flight path.I find only the older vergin plane do it,think it6s got somthing to do with the wingtip stabilizers.

  3. G'[day all

I'm headed down to adelaide next week, and am in need of some raider loven. When i say loven, i mean specifics e.g. gps marks. As i have only 24 hrs of boat time and have no time to explore.I need some specifics spots to fish.I have a limited amount of knowledge of the adlelaide area, but am lucky to have a gps on board hence specifics. So my target fish are kings, mulloway, and snapper.I'm picking the boat up from o'sullivans beach at 6pm and returning it back there at 6pm the following day(not bad for $150 bux) i can't really go to far from shore as im not familiar with the waters. So thanks to all who post, and to anyone willing to give up a hot tip please pm me.As info that I am asking of yous is hard to come by. Once I've had a crack, all gps marks and hot fishing areas will be erased from memory(mine and computer).

    thanks again, for your help.

    regards. winfield.

  4. Went out with my brother in-law hoping for jewfish. Caught some live bait at West Head and headed for Flint and Steel. Fished from 7.00pm till midnight for 1 octopus and a catfish, other wise zilch, nothing, zero. :ranting2:

We had squid, live yellow tail, butterflyed large mullet, butterflyed yellow tail, white bait and prawns all in a burley trail. At the change of the tide the plan was to move to Juno but it was like playing the pokes, its gota pay soon. Unfortunately it didnâ€t. Something tells me our luck may have been better at Juno as we at least always get a run there.

Twice now we have fished night before the full moon and got a big zero. Seem to do better when we ignore the phase of the moon.

Saw something interesting, not to far away there was a boat trolling very slowly. I assume with bait for jews as it was a bit before 9.00 pm that he arrived and stayed within the same area for a good 2 hours. Never heard or seen any one troll for jewfish at night. Anyway he got zilch and so did another boat we chatted to.

    :1yikes:

    nice one lol

  5. Good on ya.don't think my marriage would last 4yrs without a fish, she who must be obeyed would start to get suspicious, know what I mean?

    10 out of 10 for persistence,well done.

I refer to her :wife: as, minister for war :ranting2: and finance, It's more war over my finances.

  6. Still waiting for my first and must have done 40 or so fishless trips

Must be doing something wrong id say :(

What bait was it...i dont think they like my gulps i keep throwing them

out but nothing might try something different.

Thats a real monster champ how did you manage that

    ol :yahoo:

Mate i've gone the plastic hunting for jews and only come up with flat head. squid strips is what i bagged the jewie with, but man one massive help was secret silver from one fisho to another this dvd helped out heaps

  7. nice work mate

what depth of water did you catch him in

from memory jews pulled up from over 10mtrs of water have a pretty low release rate

your right, it was smack bang in the middle of the shipping channel, and the current was heaps strong too. And this is the second time this has happend. Same spot, and i wonder if its happend to someone else? but i've cast my line out had it set for about 15mins and my friends cast out, and as soon as the sinkers hit the top of the water my drags started running. Now this happend to us last week but he caught the jew and this week was my turn,my theory (now i'm a freaking expert after one jew) is that the jew had it in his mouth my mates sinker scared him in to hooking himself. What say you my fellow fish raiders?????

  8. congrats on bagging your 1st jew mate.you'l be on that high for long to come.did you manage to get a measurement & est. weight on it.& what bait or lure did the damage???well done mate, great fish.

    cheers johnny. :beersmile::thumbup:

going off that pic with the bag and the lighter (and thats a big arse light)she about 74cm weight i'm not sure bout 4-5kg, ithink and squid strips

  9. Congratulations, must be one Great feeling :yahoo:

Man its an awsome feeling and all this time i was over looking one thing and that was bait size. I was watching a dvd where the presenter was paying heaps of attention to his bait size and also how to strip squid , awsome fathers day idea secret silver.

  10. Congratulations on your first jew, the bug only gets worse from here on. Hope to see many more photo's over the coming months :1fishing1:

    pongrass18ft

hahaha you know what that means ....a trip down to the tackle store with the wifes credit card yeeee haaa

  11. finally got what i was looking for, after 4 years of fishing and many cold nights alone on jetties and rocks and untold dvds on how to catch em.I bagged this mutha of a jewie,I spent 30 mins trying to swim my jewie in waist deep water but the poor bugga wouldnt right himself, which was a shame after targeting them for so long ,I've gained much respect for the elusive mulloway. Is there a site where it tells you how long the fish can stay out of water and how to swim them....Thanks jew gaffa, jew hunter,kenn-g and the fishraiders site for all your help and info. This was not just my jewie but a combined effort, that once all information was gathered and applyed correctley paid dividends.

  12. I can't believe the number of maniacs that have PM'd me for details on spots in the harbour to chase surgeons.

To hazza, vietgod, cephalod, woodchop and smitty, you guys have my deepest sympathy  I have emailed you all the same 2 "hotspots", maybe you can get in contact with each other and arrange a trip. My mate Steve and I will join you, though as he suggested, we won't actually be fishing, we'll be the ones selling the floats and laughing ourselves silly at the number of bust-ups. A lot of fishos probably aren't aware of the surgeons power and speed on those initial runs but it can be quite amazing.

get into it boys and enjoy!

whats the real name for these fish ,ive been tryin to look them up to see what they look like and all thats under SU is sunfish even the latin would be good, ive got a mate that know where they at and hes also referring to them as surgeons

see how fast they jump out the water then

  15. ok ive been on the hunt for my first jew fish for 2.5 years now, used diffrent tactics, rigs, tackle, you name it ive done it.but the fish gods still wont bless me with a mulloway yet.the only thing ive not changed in the few years chaseing jewies is my LEADER.i use the pen 30 pound leader cheap stuff ,could that be it??could it be a visual thing, like they get spooked when the see a pretty white leader in the water attached to a live yellow tail.AS SOON AS I GET ONE ILL LET THE FISH GO AND THROW THE RODS IN TOO....lol

    im landbased

    main line /30pound braid

    reel/big enough

  20. I was down at Thames Street Wharf yesterday from about 5pm to 8pm. I had 2 very strong hits (ganghooked pilchards) but no hookups. On both occasions all I had left was the pilchard heads. Pretty lucky fish if you ask me.

It wasn't Jewfish-big - my amateur opinion is that it was a tailor, but it was exciting anyway!
