I used to live in Tempe when the ban was on. I was of the understanding that it was the heavy metals build up from all the industrial sites along the river that was the real health concern.
I had a google and found this : http://www.sciencealert.com.au/news/20112510-22760.html
I noticed Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are on the list of chemicals found in the river? At least the fish wont have headaches.
But generally it mentions pooh. Lots and lots of pooh.

thats one lucky man to have those experienced and brave guys around...
I got a good takeaway from the article - the improvised harness. Tie a jacket around the disabled fisherman's chest and then attach a rope to pull him out. Would never of thought of that, but its a great idea....

What they all said. If I can do it, you can.
I read the post given above and then found some videos on you tube.
I feel much better having done it now and feel much more comfortable when towing. If something goes wrong I know I can look at the problem and get it moving again. I know exactly the parts I need and tools to carry.
Give it go.

You really have to stop doing that.
I laughed so loud people at work wanted to know what I was laughing at.

Brazil and maybe Germany. Although Portugal played better than the Brazilians in the group games I thought.
If the Germans don't win this one then they'll do well at the next one. They have a great young team. I hope the A-League takes a little look at the Bundesliga and takes some lessons from there. They have been playing some attractive football too, very un-german like.

My father used to tell me "You know that old saying 'It takes all kinds to make the world go around'? Well it doesn't you know but they're there anyway".
Still makes me laugh.

To those of you who condone this ban, i really feel sorry for you. First and foremost you are being mislead, if you honestly believe that they are closing these wharves due to those who leave their rubbish behind, then you really should go back to first grade because thats about as great as your intelligence is. If rubbish was the issue, they would get the correct authorities out there to issue fines. They even have surveillance cameras at most wharfs, if they REALLY wanted to discipline people, then they would know when and how to. This is just another GREEN initiative which will start here and spread throughout the harbour.
People throw rubbish on the streets, in parks, at the beach, SHOULD WE CLOSE THEM TOO?
Dont be so nieve guys!
Sorry, I don't agree.
It has way more to do with paying commuters slipping on fish guts and making a huge public liability claim. Also, I assume that the loss making Sydney ferries would prefer to not have to pay someone to clean up their wharves. Then there is the night time anglers who piss on til all hours and make too much noise.
Have to agree with Puppydawg. If there isn't anybody policing these issues now, who will police the bans?

What a top report.
And Jewgaffer, that is just brilliant.

That's a fantastic thing to do Stewie.
I do hope my son and I can be involved and look forward to helping out as much as we can. It's a matter that's come up a lot lately and one which is close to my heart. It's just so easy to clean up after yourself but makes so much difference to peoples enjoyment of a place.
to be continued . . . . .

I just picked up a bait trap at a dept. store for $12. I think I was suppose to shopping for 'Back to School' stuff but took a little turn and ended up at the other end of the store. Oops.
Scooping them up might be a bit hard. They're quick little buggers. Or you can make one out of a two litre drink bottle.

I always thought you lied about the size of the fish you catch
Now I have proof!
I'm going to measure every fish you pull into the boat now with my own tape measure.
Seriously though - when we'd target snapper in SA the legal limit is 38cm
but we'd only take them over 40cm, as they do shrink a cm or two in the ice slurry
glad you didnt get a fine - only trophy fish this holiday season!
Jason
Agree with above. I tend to only take em if they are a couple of cm's over.
Also, be careful of your brag mats. They can also be effected by the sun as they are made of a plastic material. Remember when you would put your twisties packet in the oven and shrink it? Heat and plastic don't mix well.

Comgrats om PB Whiting, it would be the largest I seen
I think people refer to whiting that size as elbow slappers but that's more arm pit length. That's HUGE.

That's a great fish.

Ah I saw you on the lake on the weekend. It looks even better on the water than it does in the photos. I was the silly woman on the green kayak trying to get some exercise. That's a whole story in itself but I wont hijack your post. And I almost paddled over to compliment you on your set up not realising I had already seen it on this very post.
Brilliant looking boat.

It's not a copper cable is it? I was chatting to a guy who was cutting the power cables off electrical equipment at council clean up. He told me it was to recycle the copper wiring as it was worth quite a bit as scap. I wasn't sure if he was being fair dinkum at the time.

I thoroughly enjoy reports from Tristan and Roberta, always appreciated!
Ditto that. And I picked up some rather interesting tips. Great read!

As always, great report and great photos Ray.

We were having a very quiet day when my partner went for the pink jelly bean. I heartily scoffed at the idea until a small pinky was brought aboard. How embarrassment.

Nice fish.
I should get back up to Hawks Nest. Haven't been there for a while.

hey,
not sure about muddies but there are plenty of blue swimmers. I managed to eye a massive one on the weekend, in Pipers Bay.
Good luck!
