  1. Thanks for the responses fellas. I already have a good rod for casting pilchards under corks. However my reasoning is to be able to throw out one unweighted without re rigging.

Instead of buying another rod for casting more corks i want to get a suitable rod for the unweighted pillies. Right now with my current outfit, it does not cast well as it does not properly load up the rod, it being rated at 8-15kg. Casting out is not really effective and putting extra power in the cast usually sends the pillie flying off the hooks. I also salt my pillies, but really prefer only slightly salted ones.

Thanks for the comment thus far.

I am eyeing something in the nitro sniper 3-6kg rated rod 10'6. Any coments on this or otherwise?

  2. What should I look for in a rod for casting unweighted pillies. I will be casting them off rock platforms mostly. What sort of properties in a rod make this sort of style of fishing easier?

Been casting bobby corks and pillies for years, thought i'd give this a try :D

  3. One or two of you may know, have met or have heard of the Orr family in Tasmania. If not then I feel very privileged.

Valdon Orr, one of the well known Tassie flyfishing family, passed away yesterday. He was my mate and the man who is most responsible for my love of fishing.

I had the good fortune to spend countless hours learning to adore the misty mornings and 'see-forever' days of the Highlands with a man who's wry humour and larrakin ways made every moment special. He taught me to flyfish, was with me when I caught my first trout on fly and shared nearly all of my most treasured memories on Tassie's lakes.

If no one else on Fishraider had the pleasure of knowing him, that's a shame. I'm a long way from where I grew up today, but I know a lot of people will miss him. me included.

    Bye mate, Slinky

Sounds like a real top bloke. Someone everyone would get along with. Rest in peace mate.

  4. What sort of terminal tackle (hooks and leaders) should i use while targeting the Parramatta Carp? Do i just fold some bread over the hook?

I am not familiar with the upper Parramatta river. Where should i work and what should i look for? Deep water? Structure? Shore? Jetties?

    Thanks.

  5. I am a very happy father, with a killer new outfit for bream, flathead & whiting - Nitro 007 Traveller 6'6" with a Daiwa TDR 2508 running 6lb braid. I have been told the TDR is the Sol but with CRBB and is cheaper!

Got a mate's bucks coming up and we are hitting Sydney Harbour for half a day and I want to blood the gear.

My question is, can you kind sir/madam give me some tips on what to do and what not to do fishing with this sort of gear off a boat? Any tips of terminal tackle or knots or even 'bring some heavier gear', is 6lb just ridiculous - should i get different line? If so what? Don't often get a chance to go boating in the harbour!

All advise appreciated. I want to prepare well. (and i will try not to chuck it over the gunnel :D)

  6. I settled on (and now have) a Nitro Outlaw Tournament Bass... 6' 1-3kg and sweet as a nut!! (and hopefully not too obvious among the many other rods in the rack).

    Cheers, Slinky

Yo slinky, I know this may be a bit late, but I wanted to suggest the American made carrot stick. I held one and it was the lightest ever rod I've ever handled.

    Cheers mate.

  7. I know where I'd rather be ... :1fishing1:

I got an Xmas party tonight and again Friday night for my fisho buddies, + its my work Xmas party same night...

Decided am going to hang with my buddies and talk fishing instead of going on a harbour cruise wishin I could lob my TLD25 with a live squid out the back for a slow troll, lol

    roflroflrofl

DUDE LOL, i went on a cruise last weekend and thought EXACTLY the same thing. I told the wife that and she didn't look impressed.

Cice boat but, reminded me of the Saturday night fever song "I'm on a boat" haha. The bella vista it was.

BL disturb3d sorry i couldnt go with ya. I say it was a massive tailor which killed your yellow tail.

  8. Hi Geek

If you ever make it up to Forster, give me a yahoo - I will teach you how to catch them yourself! Much more fun & cheaper over the long run!

    Roberta

LOL Awesome. Everytime you offer your knowledge i go a bit crazy and start looking out house prices again in Forster!!! Dammit!

Going to plan a holiday one day and head up there! Thanks!

  9. pittwater road sell worms and would be on your way up to the beaches. Not sure what time they are open tho.

    Paul

Thanks Paul, they close at 7pm i think, bit out of my way bit, as i'd have to go thru the city to get there, and that'll be bad at 5pm!

bait shop down @ woodville road granville/merrylands area hes open till all hours of the night i can go there @ 2 am n get fresh bait anytime

Oh yeah, Chucky, i think he sells blood worms but not live beach worm. Same with the guy in Auburn on parramatta road.

I've also found that the narrabeen bait store sells blood worms but not beach worms and close at 6pm.

    Any other beach worm outlets?

  10. I would like to suggest more suitable banner sizes for the mobile platform. Viewing it on a mobile device, renders the standard banners which are huge on a smaller screen.

It's great that the forum has a better format for the mobile / iphone but the huge banners on these smaller devices make viewing quite difficult, not to mention longer rendering times and higher bandwidth requirements.

Even turning them off might be a possibility for the mobile platform as most people would be wanting to check info quickly and would definately be regulars, who would then usually use the standard pc.

    Cheers.

  11. Hi, thinking of hitting the northern beaches after work. I find that by the time i drive there, the bait stores are well closed by then.

Where can i get live beach worms in the Marrickville to Parramatta area? Or anywhere from there to the northern beaches?
