Last month we had heaps of rain & lake should have been full.
Thats why we decided to go as we expected the lake to be full
Power Station keeps taking the water out of Lake Lyle as it fills up
-
The Lake has only 23% water level and is full of green alge
It is in a poor state and is not very attractive & inviting
In the higher parts like Farmers Creek & were Cox's runs in is a complete carpet of
green alge covering the surface all over
The alge is all over including near Dam Wall
This my 3rd trip to Lake Lyle and proberly the last

Hello.
I have recently moved from Canada. I have done lots and lots of rainbow trout fishing from shore float fishing (using a center pin - very common method in canada). Mostly for Steelhead (a lake running rainbow trout) and chinook salmon. I have much river experience catching them using flies and roe (we are allowed to use row in canada).
I would like to learn some trout fishing up around Lake Lyell. I live in the Sydney CBD. I do have a boat with a down rigger. I usually use it around the harbour for kingies but if I put a smaller gear on it, it can be used for trout.
I would like to learn to troll for trout. I would also like to learn when the best time to fly fish the rivers are and where to go.
I went up there once (before I had the boat) and didn't catch anything. I had no clue where to go though.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I would like to know the following:
1) What time of year the rivers are the best
2) What time of year is it best to fish the lakes
3) Where are some good public places to fish
Also, if somebody is willing to join me and show me around that would be awesome. We can use my boat with the down rigger. It is a 5 meter 85 hp. Hopefully its not too big for that little lake. Or we can simply hit some good spots on the river from the shore.
Look forward to hearing from somebody for advice.
Also, can anybody reccomend a good guide up in that area?
Thanks.
You will need to check out water levels as they do close access at times to Lake Lyle
The power station at Wallerwrang has closed due to lack of water
The water comes via Lake Lyle so it sounds like threr may be no access
You can ring Lake Lyle to find out

All you trout fishermen take heart for your next trip to Lake Lyell

We had 8 fishos with 4 boats attack the Trout at the week end. Weather was against us but went any way
A little overcast light showers & no wind & heavy showers at night
Only one Rainbow to keep & 2 small ones returned to grow up
We fished all Saturday with a poor result -- tried Tassie Devils & worms for bait
Plenty of fish on the finder showing up but not ready to play

Hi Gang,
Got to the Lake (Lyell) at about 7.30am, first fish landed was about 8.00am on a bait which measured 41cm.
That was the only decent rainbow caught the other 4 fish caught looked to be last years spawn run, they were all about 15-20cm long.
Still no fat rowe carriers to be seen.
Might give it a couple of weeks and do the TCD thing....
Cheers

Hi Everyone
I have just bought my first fishing boat @ 2nd hand Quintrex Centert Console wiyh 60 HP Evenrude
so as to get back into fishing after a 25 year lay off.
I will retire in a couple of years so need to get set up with all the new technices etc.
Found this Fishfinders site & think it is fantastic, with all the knowledge I can pick up from the members.
Specially Roberta on Blackfishing.
I have started fishing Botant Bay & Port Hacking with limited success but I am sure I will do better
with the info I am getting from Fishfinders members

The Chanel runs fast under the bridge, use 1 meter leader in the fast water.
