  1. This is going to make a mockery of Jewie fishing...but he got it 7pm...think that was about an hour after the low on a pilchard on ganged hooks.

not the first and definately wont be the last jewie taken by that method, i saw a 20kg model landed on the same rig at the entrance beach about 6 years ago and there i was with fresh tailor fillets for zilch...thats fishing. good on him though, great effort.

  2. to see kids enjoying fishing is priceless, i love taking my nephews and nieces fishing...one nephew in particular got a 65cm jew the first time i took him out, he still reminds me of it.

btw, be carefull kissing those tailor, they have a nasty habit of chomping anything that gets close and it hurts.

  3. hi raiders,

ive got a Abu 7000 overhead (dark blue) thats about 10 years old but from memory only used it about half a dozen times. The drag has become extremely sticky (i probably left the drag screwed up all those years ago) and i was just wondering if there is an upgrade kit available for them cause id like to start using it again.

    appreciate any advice.

    cheers.

  4. .

Seem to be attracting a lot of sharks at the moment. They obviously like this warm water and the extra bait fish around. Anyone got any theories on whether they chase the jewies off? Is it worth persisting when they move in? They seem like the more aggresive predator.

ive caught jewies when the sharks are around, my cousin caught a 50 pounder straight after pulling in 7 sharks in a row.

  5. great stuff kelvin, i saw you towing the boat back through lane cove, nice tow vehicle! theres alot of jewies coming from the harbour over the last week or so in particular but nothing close to the size capable in the hawkesbury, in my opinion the hrabour is the home of kings and jews in the hawkesbury.

  6. I have to say the fishing is extremely healthy at the Entrance but it was extremely annoying on the weekends watching people catching undersize whiting and keeping them  Poor Form.

    :1welcomeani: to Fishraider.

i love fishing the entrance but like you it annoys the crap out of me to see all those undersized fish being kept and everytime i go there i see this happens, fisheries would have a field day there. it still astounds me that the quality fish are still there.

  7. If you fish too light you run the risk of getting done but if you fish too heavy then you generally get less bites, especially if the fish are finacky. Personally id rather fish heavy and have a decent chance at stopping a big fish, 40lb is the lightest trace i use when i jewie fish and if im fishing close to structure then ill go up to 80lb.

  8. apart from the stupid boating things ive done my ALL TIME embarrasing moment (theres a few) is as follows...

I was getting ready to go out one night with my girlfriend, we were at her mums place so i went to the bathroom to get ready. Wanting to fix my hair up i opened the vanity cupboard and grabbed a bottle of hair gel. I proceeded to squeeze it out and began to style my hair. After about 10 seconds my hair began to soap up...wtf?? i grabbed the bottle and felt like the biggest dick in the world when i read the label: Harpic 2 in 1 toilet cleaner! it took a good shower to get it out but hey, at least my hair was nicely disinfected :1prop:

  9. i agree on the rain front mate, a good flood will hopefully put some life back into the meighty hawkesbury. we fished all day yesterday at gunyah and juno with live yakkas, tailor frigate and fresh squid for 1 shovelnose  not uncommon for us this year.
