Dene and I spent a great week up at Bynoe late in April.
The pelagics were on fire with Dene holding on to a few 16lb GTs with the spin gear, I was smoked by a couple on the 9wt, and plenty of big Queenies willing to play. My best Queenie was a 90cm - 15lb model on the 7wt.
14 species on the fly for the week with about 40 Barra between us. The Barra were a bit dopy, if you didn't put the fly or lure within 6 inchs of their nose they didn't bother looking at it.
I haven't got around to putting a vid together yet so here's the trailer.
And a few pics
This one really hurt Dene

Top sport Kel! Light tackle fishing doesn't get much better than that.
Bennoz, get yourself a kayak mate. They'd be well within reach with a leisurely paddle, low cost with no rego or petrol and you get fit at the same time.

Sound's good, you down over xmas? I know he's thinking about selling the boat and buying a hobie.
Nick.
Yes mate, week before and after. I'll get in touch a little closer to xmas
Cheers
Rod

Great work Nick.
We might have to coax Evan out again over Xmas and go for a Fly Paddle
A 50cm Bass is awesome in that water

Great work fellas
As I was reading it I had a sense of dé·jà vu so I did a quick search.
Looks like the time of year for big flatties in Tuross July 20, 2008 report
Not sure what happened in 2009 though?
Geez, it must have been cold if you're pulling out hats like that Dene

Awe Bloody Hell guys, that's amazing.
What a fantastic session and what a sight it must have been.
You live in paradise!

A new definition for the Double Hookup Skip! 2 Tailor on one popper, classic!
Nice lizard too mate.
Happy birthday Dene, all the best mate.
-
Great read Skip.
I'm looking forward to a few days up there over Xmas.

I gather the scarf set up is for sun protection? How are they with comfort ? as having a trade where you need some protection often wearing thin over the face are a pain.
TDH,
It's a Buff with 30+ sun protection. Made for the very hot southern american states.
It was a bit too much when the humidity got very high, but most of the time I didn't really notice it.
I wore it over my face most of the time and the only day I got sunburn was when I didn't take it out.

Thanks all, we did have a great time.
I think that Barra knew we were filming him

Nice work as usual Skip
How did Dene go after a week at Aurukun?
Did he pull their heads off on the strike or has he already adjusted?
Where is the Aurukun report by the way???
-
Bloody Ripper Deno, well done mate.
How'd you go Skip, any luck?
-
Great captures again Skip.
How many Sol's does one need?!? Careful you don't catch Dene's tackleitis mate, it can be very contagious
-
Thanks all. Could be a while before I'm fly casting again I think. I really appreciate the support.
-
Nice work you guys.
I look forward to the reports when the fishing starts to "hot up".
-
Thanks all,
It is great fun and there's always more to learn.
We were using small pubble pops I think for the rack work.
As Cam said, it's all about the anticipation
-
I've put togther a small vid from my couple of weeks up at Tuross.
I hope you enjoy
-
Nice work fellas. Wish I was still up there with you
Hodgy,
I notice you keep the rear treble feathers on the popper. Did the whiting hit those more than poppers without the feathers or was there no difference?
-
Thanks all.
Nothing better than visual fishing, except visual fly fishing

Been fishing with my father-in-law Dene (Hodgey’s guide/driver/antagonist ) over the Christmas period.
We’ve mainly concentrated on Bream with poppers with lots of “kisses” and a few good catches.
Poppering over a break in the weed bed yesterday and was lucky enough to see this momma come up and suck the popper in.
She fought well and with lots of instruction from the guide we were able to boat her, take a few snaps, measrure her to 72cm and send her on her way.
They’re a bit hard on the popper but a great by-catch when targeting Bream.
Thanks for the lend of the guide Hodgey, he’s not too bad
Regards

Was the yellow shirt a fish attractant or did it put them down
