  1. Thanks for the info guys and the link as well.

Huey, you always pull through with good advise and a 1968 evinrude still running fine is amazing, just goes to show that if you take care of your outboard it will probably out live its owner.

Huey, ive been told that converting it to a 30hp is an inexpensive procediure.

Can you Pm me with a quote for that and a quote on an impelor and gearoil change as well please.

Im a little short on cash at the moment but need to do this very soon, I dont want to destroy the motor as I havnt had it in the water yet and dont know its past service history.

    thanks

  2. hey wandering if anyone out there has the same motor

its a 2004 25hp mercury short shaft electric and pullstart the model number is a 25e

    heres my question

the manual tilt locks in when tilted up as if you were going to tow it

but it has no locking device when lowered as if in the water ready to go

i havent had it in the water yet

ive looked right over it there is nothing broken or anything like that

im just a bit concerned whilst in reverse about the motor coming up or something

or does the weight of the thing hold it down

ive only ever had 6hp and they have a little lock thing

and another thing it also has a like a almost a piece of coat hanger but thicker hanging down looks like an original part whats its purpose

if anyone has any info at all it would be tremendously appreciated

It should lock while it is down as well. Pull the leaver in the lock position and it should lock unless the trim pin is missing. Its the pin that goes in the series of holes along both sides of the transom plate.

    Hope this helps

  3. Hey,

We got a 25hp tohatsu 2 stroke 2006, just wondering if any one can tell me the ideal fuel/oil mixture to use?

I usualy use 50:1 with older models but others have said 100:1 or others 25:1????

does the quality of oil matter...semi sinthetic or full synthetic?

opinion would be appreciated, maybe Huey can answer this one.

    thanks

  4. G"day,

Sorry to hear about idiots messing with your stuff. A mate told me he recently he lost a wheel from his trailer while driving home. He reckons someone loosened his wheel nuts deleiberatly or was disturbed whilst trying to steal his wheel. I am now giving my trailer a quick visual before heading home.

MH has been very quiet for some time now. We did an arvo into evening last week.

Only managed yakkas and slimies again but this time not takers on livies or strip bait.

Not even a stinking eel. Squid at the Spit on the night didnt want to play ball either.

August is the worst month by far in MH.

Should start to wake up sept/oct.

    Cheers

    Ye, good Idea.

The boat and trailer belongs to my mate but with mine, when i get one, I might put locknuts and crimped roller pins so the have to grind them off to steal the rollers.

Stolen rollers would stuff you right up hai?

    Regards to the slimies..

I havnt cought slimies in middle harbour since 2005!!!

Where did you buerly out for them, if you dont mind me asking, there fun fish to catch and good jewie bate as well.

You can PM me if you like.

  5. I know it was a very poor day on the almanac today but today was a joke

Nothing at all but 3 pesky leather jackets and some a#* hole nocked off with our safety shackel and almost our winch handle on our trailer.(probably realised it didnt fit his winch). :ranting2:

We troled almost the whole lot, tunks to weddingcake and back. Nada

Any way better than working. and a few  later made for a better day.

  6. thanks guys - appreciate the help.

the great news - I've managed to unstuck it, and pull it out, and fix it. It's now all working again - but way too stiff. Which suggests I should put in a new set of cables.

I'm "half handy" - not to bad on stuff I've done before, but not great. Tossing up getting a dealer to do it - or doing it myself.

On a related note - I think I striped a gear in the steering column when trying to unstuck it - it now jolts every half turn. What's the fix for this?

Good news is I can still go fishing tomorrow.

    Mike

Souds like your helm is stuffed as well or the problem in the first place. I now sugest to take the cable out and check the tracks and move it in and out and if thats OK replace the helm

hope it helps as I think you will have a problem in the future...Hope not onyour trip tomorow though.... good luck

  7. Hey All

Just wondering - how much labour should I be expecting to pay a mechanic to replace a steering cable?

Will (likely) take longer then usual as the steering arm on the motor is stuck, so will take a bit of effort to take that out...

thanks (just working out if this guy has given me a good quote, or if I should check elsewhere)

    Mike

Mate, the only thing you have to do on the motor side is unbolt the nut on the steering cable and the whole unit will slide out of the motors body, may be with a tap or two, even if the cable is stuck.

The time is in the helm, If you are not replacing the helm, to take the steering out if there is no room, take the lock pin out, slide the old cable out, feed the new cable in and put the lock pin in. And tuck the cable back away where it was.

Thats it. you can do it your self.

  8. $2000.00 inc a 2006 motor ,assuming it is in good condition, it's a good deal .

The motor should have a a charge facility. I note you live in the inner west. There is a Tohatsu dealer in Newtown , give them a call.

For interest , the 25 is a detuned 30. Change over is not that difficult but best done by the dealer as it involves changes to the timeing settings

    Geoff

Yes thanks mate , I know who you mean, Australia St.

The motor looks like new and pumps plenty of water but havent had it in the water yet so you could only hope alls fine.

    Cheers

  9. Hey guys,

I just got my hands on for a mate a tohatsu 2006 25hp long shaft tiller electric start to fit on a 395 tinny (4m).

I was wondering if any one could tell me if its got a battery charge coil or is there any test to find out, perhaps multimeter? and for $1300..... is that cheap?

(we bought a second hand boat package for $2000 and sold the trailer and boat for $700 but kept the motor)

its got recipts for $4000 when bought new.

What is a second hand 2006 going for these days.

    Cheers

  10. Mate once they are siezed in my opinion its not worth trying to unsieze them as u will forever have trouble and its not worth the risk (esp. with family in boat) for less than $200 u can have a new cable and no worries.....they are not hard to install either.....not sure if its the one u need but there is one in swap and sell right now......good luck

    Thanks for the plug Payatz.

Yes I own the steering and still have it If Mike doyle needs it he can have it for $150. And i can arrange postage for a small fee if he likes.

    Cheers

  11. Nice flathead at Stockton Stucatz..... That's not a bad looking spot by the look of it...... It would have been funny ay had you turned around after the pic was taken and saw no sign of your rod just the rod holder sitting in your chair :1yikes::biggrin2:

    Cheers

    jewgaffer :1fishing1:

    Cheers guys,

Mate i would have gone in for a swim if that happened. :1prop:

I wish I could post a video cause just a few minuts before that catch I got tangled with a seagul and Im trying to shake it loose and when that didnt work I tried to get it untangled carefully so i dont hurt it my mate was filming me and cracking up so much he almost had a coronary. :074::074:

  12. Mate, just a word of warning with Brooker boats.

They are a very good boat and been arround for a long time I had one and getting another one BUT when you mount the motor and drill through the transom you will find that the holes will go through the rectangular alloy suport bracing on the in side of the transom.

As these are hollow make sure once you drill the hole and before you bolt it up squirt a hell of a lot of sikaflex in the hole (in the channel of the bracing) and on the washers so as to seal it properly.

I got a new 90 fitted to my new transom by the dealer and if I didnt have a beilge pump i would have had a lot of water in it! I unbolted it and did this and it was fine, dry as.

Just a hint for brooker owners.

  13. I have a diawa 40lb monstamesh jig rod spin

I was wondering if there is any one that can give me educated advise on putting an overhead reel on a spin rod of this style? will it damage it with say if a big king or jewie hopped on?

Also is there any product that you can use as maintanance to keep the foam or cork grip from drying out and going hard.

    Cheers

  14. Hey Guys and Gals,

I went out for a fish at Bundina for a change of scenary and on the way there through the national park there is an overpass there at the bottom of the valley where there is a river on one side and marshes/swamps on the other.

On the river side there was what looked like mullets jumping out of the water and looked like they where being chased by some thing.

Can any one that knows the place or a simillar senario tell me if they are indeed mullets getting chased or are they feeding or what?

Could they be chased by Jewies? I tried throwing out some soft plastics in mullet colour but nothing, just snags.

I had a simillar senario at the boat ramp at Bobbin head and the same nothing but in both areas the water was going apeshit .

    ??????????????????

can any one solve this mistery?

  15. Hay Guys,

Im thinking of getting a 450 alloy boat and thinking of putting a 50hp etech on it.

Can any one tell me about performance, reliability and cosumption of this particular size motor?

I know the 115 are tops but was told that the 40,50,60s are an overweight underpowered unit, compared to a 4 stroke anyway.....

    Help would be appreciated.

    Cheers
