I recall seeing 19C on the sounder... perhaps 20C.
Didn't feel too chilly when I jumped in to retrieve the ball my dog kept tossing over the side....
Lost at least half a dozen hooks/ fish, with some pretty good runs.... so they're definitely around.

Went to Jerusalem Bay on Saturday to spend the night...and hopefully catch a fish or two.
Queue dusk and having caught only undersized bream and tailor, I was on the verge of downing the rod to drown my sorrows, then I started losing hooks to the tiniest of bites... Leader snipped with surgical precision.
I was only using single hooks, so I paid more attention to the ever-so-slight wobbling of the line, liiiiiiift, and I'm on.
After a strange but solid fight (not quite eel-like, not quite fish) up comes a small hairtail, around 1 metre.
Small by hairtail standards but it's my first. Pretty chuffed having ticked that box.
Lost a few more hooks to some bigger fish before calling it a night.

I've have caught a few tiny redfin (and bass), on celtas and small z-man grub plastics.
Usually fish along the lily / weed beds at the Nth Side of the wall and up the back of the dam, away from the picnic areas (western end of road/ carpark).
Takes a while to find a patch of reds but once they're around they can be annoyingly fun.
Haven't fished the dam with bait but it's something I'll do this summer.
Also wouldn't mind getting a yellowbelly this season....

Same here.... There's more redfin than water in Oberon dam.... full of the f###rs.
Unpowered vessels are allowed on the dam now, so if you have one, take it and help eradicate the redfin.
If you're lucky there might be a trout amongst the mix.

That is a top spot for flatties off the beach... also a great spot for sharks..
Also worth a try for flathead further around the rocks.. on the flats..

I've upgraded my outfit since that post but still using the same types of flies.. have added a few med / large prawn imitations to the array also.
Whiting will hit most flies on flats, just make sure you're mending the line correctly as it's quite easy for a fly to look unnatural especially with the way the current runs across sand flats.

not too tricky if you can combat the problem of being stealthy enough to get to them before they see you... ... oh and keep an eye out for little stingrays

I've heard (2nd hand) that they have pearly, firm, white flesh... "the best freshwater fish he's had".
..... I guess that depends how far you(ve) travel(led)..
I, for one, can think of at least a few already appetite-whetting freshwater fish... barra, cod, yellas..... digressing tho...
Reports are, yes, bass = good to eat... From Nepean... probably not.
Let us know how you get on Brett... I'll be having a crack at them in the Nepean on Saturday.

Drift the sand flats in Middle Harbour between Grotto Pt and Castle Rock beach. Plastics are good and if using bait, have a running sinker. Dont want the paternoster lead to be the first thing in the flatties' face.

Whiting are great fun on fly, especially when they're fired up!
Most of my whiting-on-fly success has been on light-coloured Crazy Charlies, clear/white UV baitfish immitations and small surf poppers.
(red nail polish on the eye beads of the crazy charlie also helps IMO)
I use my cheap trout rod, 8ft, 5wt with WF5F line on a 5/6 reel. sinking or floating tippet shouldn't be an issue if you're targeting them in < 4ft (majority of my catches in this depth range).
Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't whiting also referred to as the poor man's bonefish?

For terminal and thick mono try a palomar knot.
Very quick and very strong.

Walk across the dam wall and fish the NE shore. Theres a few lily beds which are good to work the edges of. Seems to be a pretty fishy spot up against the dam wall too. I usually leave a baited rod out (worms) whilst flicking lures or flies for bass and reddies.
I'd say that if targeting crap you could use almost anything for bait... bread, worms, cheese and so on. Get out there and have a crack, it's a top spot to wet a line.
Got a nice little oz bass on worms a last time i was there a few weeks ago. (light braid >> mono leader, small split shot, small worm hook).

Esp. around HMAS Penguin. Sometimes they care, sometimes they don't.
Often see some good fish hanging around those mooring drums @ penguin.

I was at Lyell a couple of weeks ago. Caught a few rainbows on Powerbait, Tassies, and Flies.
Black spinners and Royal Wulffs seemed to attract the most hits.
I think this one fell victim to a Wulff...

Casting unweighted baits at the channel-end of the wrecks in Salt Pan Cove works well. Have pulled out some BIIIG bream and some very decent flatties on the drop off. Anywhere along the channel @ Tunks goes off during spring due to the arm being a spawning ground for most estuary species. Have even seen a few large salmon (caught on fresh squid) needing a beach landing on the boat ramp. In winter though, travel a couple of hundred metres towards middle harbour where the arm meets Fig Tree Point. Follow the western shoreline around to Clive Park (rocky & bushy waterfront) and you'll see a sailing club with a big deck on the water. Thirty metres or so off that deck is a very deep drop off... (goes to about 35m, one of the deepest in Sydney)... drop down a live bait (squid if you can) early morning or at dusk and berley well...... HOLD ON TIGHT.
