UPDATE:
The boat has been at the warf for a week now and unfortunately quarantine want it cleaned, apparently there were some leaves in it that needed to be removed.
So now, an independent company will need to clean it, then QA will come back and inspect and then I may get the release.... Maybe.
It seemed to be smooth sailing until it got to Austraila!
So lesson here is: MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE BOAT THOROUGHLY BEFORE IT LEAVES THE PORT.
Ill be having a word to my agent in the US tonight.
I bought a 2601 striper over last year, i used portsea marine in melbourne and they arranged all my cleaning and shrink wrapping in florida, they have a partner in florida who took care of that aswell as built me a aus spec alloy trailer, so they really ensure everything is done right, and yes if any part of your tow rig is over 2.5m then a wide load permit will be required, 2301-2601 are 2.59m beam, the boat will be called HINDSIGHT so come and say hi if anyone sees me at the ramp...

Hi raiders,
Is anybody out there running a 250hp or larger ETEC? if so i would love to have a chat to you.. please PM me..
cheers
-
The trailers are made in the states and shipped here, speak to justin at port sea marine and im sure he can arrange to have your trailer shipped from the factory in florida to your nearest port.... regardless pm me if you want his contact details

look at seabreeze and BOM and average them out, BOM always eers on the side of caution by adding a few knots of wind and a foot or 2 onto the seas so keep that in mind... Except in the case of westerlies IE N/W, S/W or a straight westerly, seabreeze almost always gets it wrong, i remember one trip very wide of JB where the forecast was 10kn W when it blew up to 26KN, took 4hrs of punching straight into it to get home, although BOM's forecast was dead on.... Also just to make things more confusing keep in mind if the current is running against the wind, the seas will stand up alot higher than the forecast seas....

I am currently running a furuno 585 with a 1kw transom mount transducer, it is an excellent package for game fishing and anything upto 250fathoms although it just isnt cutting it in deep water bottom fishing applications, does anyone use a FCV295 in either 2 or 3kw? or another brand of unit in 2 or 3kw?

I think its ridiculous, the bag limits are exactly the same if using a electric, the amount of hooks per line are the same, so why ban them? some people will say using an electric is not sporting, but the whole point of deep water bottom fishing is to simply put fillets on the table, isnt that the principle of fishing in its most basic form... Some will say its not traditional but neither are colour digital sounders, no stretch braided lines etc... Now also what will define an electric reel, what about electric downriggers or teaser reels? if the DPI has a problem with current fish stocks maybe they should carry out more inspections and introduce harsher fines for people who exceed the bag limits... if they did random checks at browns more often they would nail plenty of offenders....

I need 2 more crew for marlin fishing saturday, we will be leaving woollamia ramp around 7am, must be able to throw in for fuel usually around $50 pm me or call on 0411155313

Heres some info on the elecric reel ban that i beleive is totally hiporcritical, Basically power assisted reels will be banned unless you have a disability... I agree electric reels are not traditional but neither are digital sounders, or high tech whaling boats, or 99% of commercial fishing practices... Is krudd gonna offer a buy back like j howard did with the rifles? everyone bring this up at your next club meeting and send off emails in distgust...
Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing
Outcomes from Meeting 47 – Tuesday 25 August 2009
Cronulla Fisheries Centre
Attendance
Bruce Schumacher (Chair), Kevin McKinnon, Neil Ryan, Charlie Howe, Sanchia Glaskin, Max Castle, John Clarke, Ann Garard, John Humphries, Adrian Wayne, Ron Croker, Claudette Rechtorik, Jan McLeod, John Drew
10. Electric reels
Electric fishing reels are generally used when targeting deep water fish species such as
gemfish, blue-eye trevalla (blue-eye cod), hapuku, banded rock cod (bar cod) and bass groper.
Electrical reels appear to be increasing in availability and popularity. The current bag and size limits were developed based on traditional harvest methods of deck/hand winches. The bag and size limits are currently 5 deep sea fish in total, only 2 gemfish, and a boat trip limit of 10 gemfish. With such limits in place, deep water species can also be prone to high grading. They also are unlikely to survive any catch and release practices.
I&I NSW is becoming increasingly concerned about the current escalating investment and use of electric reels for fishing in NSW and potential impacts on deep sea fisheries resources. The majority of council members considered the use of electric reels was not a, traditional, acceptable form of recreational fishing and therefore, the use of powered/electric reels should be restricted.
Note: Electric reels are often necessary to allow people with disabilities to fish successfully. It is considered that the use of electric reels by people with disabilities is acceptable. Electric reels are also commonly used by charter boat operators but are already heavily restricted by the boat limit of 10 gemfish.
Motion: The council supports the banning of electric reels, subject to a permit system for
acceptable use (e.g. to assist disabled fishers). The council recommends that the ban be
implemented during the next review of bag and size limits and that the Minister consider issuing an investment warning in the near future to advise the recreational fishing sector of this position.
Moved: Charlie Howe. Seconded: John Drew. Carried. (Against: John Humphries, Ann
Garard, Neil Ryan).
Here's a link to the entire meeting. Makes for some interesting reading as well...

Predator finished up in 2009 so it would be one of the last made . The mono hulls are Awesome boats in the ocean.
Cheers Dogtooth .... John...
Yeah predator boats closed down in 2009 not from lack of workmanship or orders, but from the 2 owners going seperate ways, one of the owners is operating out of ulladulla, under a new name though.... The monos are excellent sea boats built tough, i love my 7m hardtop.... anybody else got a predator?

A fuel truck comes into huskisson on a regular basis to fuel up the local dive and charter fleet, im unsure what days or times but im sure if you rang one of them they would tell you

The furuno 585 unit with a transom mount 1kw transducer is a very popular package for offshore fishos, i have one and use it extensively in my game fishing pusuits, now my questions are, what depth are people getting with them, at trolling speeds and stationary? how deep does it mark bait or fish etc? at what speed does it hold bottom in shallow or deep water etc.... I have spoken to dozens of fishos and no 2 boats seem to get the same results, now i totally understand that transducer location plays a massive part aswell as cable routing etc but fishfinder installation/setup is not the intention of this post, my intention is to find out what real world recordings the furuno 585 is achieving.... cheers

NOT PUTING A SAFETY LINE ON A 80W BENT BUTT TIAGRA OUTFIT AND WATCHING IT SKIP ACCROSS THE SURFACE AS A BIG BLUE HEADS FOR THE HORIZON.....
-
Go composite riggers, ive broken a telescopic aluminium rigger before and it broke from a strike from a marlin while trolling, they look flash but are very flimsy, and expensive.
-
So my question still hasnt been answered, theres gootta be someone using a lowrance HDS with a 1KW transducer for blue water applications that can answer my questions.
-
Huey is of course right, you can not cut the transducer cable. you may be able to get adapters but cutting through the cables shield wil render it useless.
Hmmm funny how my airmar NKP CTP253 1kw transducer was lengthened by 11m after the cable was cut a foot from the transducer by TMQ electronics very successfully but obviously that cant be done by your way of thinking and expertise.... Also a plug changeover costs $40 and has been done successfully on half a dozen transducers for lowrance units that i know of, HDS units havent been done as yet im still waiting for conformation from lowrance.
-
Hi, just a note-only the larger HDS units take the 1Kw and then only as thru hull or "wet box" design. No transom mount version available in that size.
Both brands have the upgraded transducer but they are not cheap.
Cheers,
Huey.
That is correct but the furuno transducer which is an airmar is exactly the same as the transducer that lowrance use, so you buy the furuno transom mount transducer and have the plug changed to suit the lowrance.

Hi mate
I've got one and can verify that it shows a tidy picture of structure out at Browns (380m to 600m). Mine only works well at these sort of depths at speeds of 5 knots or less (in deep water mode) but this could be operator error or an issue with my hull (marlin bb cat) or transducer location... I've only had it out in the deep water for three expeditions so far. Shallower water, it works perfectly up to cruising speed with a higher quality picture. Overall I'm a big fan.
Cheers
Cheers for that im trying to decide whether to get the lowrance HDS or the furuno 585 both with the 1KW transducer
