  1. This is a thread that could go on and on, sadly the people that will leave areas in such a state are generally beyond any sensible reason.

I never understand why some 'fishermen' don't just have a plastic bag with them and put all the loose bits and pieces along with the rubbish and dump? If there's not a bin at the wharf take it home and put in a bin that way.

  2. Hi Raiders

Just a quick report - threw off the renovation shackles this morning and took off early to toss lures around the shoreline of the Bay Run at IC for 2 hours.

Nothing startling but managed 2 bream (1 legal & 1 not) plus a couple of flatties around 45. Few other undersize flatties, 1/2 doz pesky tailor and finished up on what I suspect was a cracker Bream that took for me a ride for 2 to 3 minutes before pulling the hooks on the little Coral shrimp ZX30. (just love that lure)

    Cheers Blood Knot

I'll have to get back over and try that area as caught some fun flatties there last summer, threw some sp's out at Blackwattle Bay Park/Bicentenial Park (Glebe) yesterday morning and had a decent bream and tailor. Still feels a bit early to be hoping for some big fish but with the nice weather who knows?

  3. G'Day Raiders,

After sitting on the sidelines & viewing the site, I thought I should get my act together & sign up. I love fishing around my local waterways (Lake Illawarra)and thought I'd post a pic of my sons biggest Bream to date caught on the weekend using believe it or not chicken breast. I normally use worms whilst beach fishing but thought I'd give the chicken a go.

I know it will sound stupid, but did you just have some chicken breast on the hook? was it in a special way, or just cut and hooked on?

  4. Hi Fellow Raiders,

my brother, my cousin and i went for a fish on sunday. High tide was at about 16:30 so we thought we would have a session on bait from about 12:00 and then switch over to plastics just before the high tide. we were fishing from a little park in Balmain and at first there was only little tiddlers coming up but as the tide got higher we started to get a few more solid hits. there was a lot of of undersize whiting coming up then my brother latches on to this little beauty :1prop:

After a few more lost baits and a couple of just legal bream and 2 large blue swimmer crabs coming up on the baits and falling victim to my extendable net, we decided to move down a bit further and try our luck with plastics. i had my mind set on landing a nice bream and the other two were after flatties. About a hour into it my cousin has about 5 flatties to his name but only one keeper and my brother has 2 undersize ones to his name. then finally my perserverance pays off with a thumper bream :1yikes:

Another smaller model bream and flattie was also landed by myself about 10 mins later and then we packed up and headed home.

All up a great day on the water with family.

    Cheers

I think I ended up at the same park as you on Sunday afternoon, got there about 4:00pm but didn't have any luck so I headed over to Glebe where a decent flathead was taken on plastics.

  5. Looks like a great catch, i am hoping to start some beach fishing in the next month or so and will be the first time so what kind of rig/set up did you use?

I'm just trying to get some info together in my head!!

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for the advice, I will look into the places mentioned.

The safety side of things is something i'm very keen to follow. The spot I fished from in coogee was viwed for a while as i watched the waves, wind etc..Even then I found a spot I liked it was covered on one side, and with the surf below didn't have to go anywhere near the edge.

I've seen some people down lower walking from Coogee to Bondi, but to me that seems madness be you experienced or not.

Once I get a car it will be easier, I'll be able to find some new places to fish, but also some safe places too.

  7. I reckon a better spot for you to try which is only just down the road is at the blessings out at south maroubra point. Its worth the walk out & you are fishing about 10 to 15ft high, which is quite safe in

most conditions. You will have a much better chance of catching quality fish if you berley up with some

stale bread & fish lightly weighted peeled prawns that will float around in the wash,or you can add a

small bobby cork if you prefer.I have fished that area over many years & usually get a mixed bag of

    fish like bream,drummer,trevally,blackfish,salmon & tailor.

Try late afternoon on a rising tide for best results.

    Steve

I'll have to check that spot out, if on foot do you go right from Coogee and just keep walking? I keep seeing some guys fishing at the top of a path about 10 mins from Coogee.

I went last night for an hour or so, pulled in 2 Flatheads (I think) and had 2 drop off on route up the rock face!!

I might go for a longer walk on Sunday afternoon, and see what I can find.

On a similar note, the other direction heads towards Gordon's Bay and Bondi etc, are those spots any good?

  8. I thought I would drop a line off the rocks near Coogee, as I am living down that way at the moment.

Went for an hour or so last night, and got a couple of flathead (I think) and a couple more fell as i lifted them up the rocks about 25ft.

Like all good fisherman I lost a good one too, not sure if it was a Flattie or not as it took me back and forth againt the surf, so quite strong?

Good times, i'll go back for sure.

  9. Hi

I was down near Coogee Beach last night, and if you take a short walk right from the beach looking out to sea you find a green space with some rocks that i saw some guys fishing from last night.

I watched for a bit and could see them pull a couple of small fish in, so I wanted to know what would be the best baits and rig to use.

The drop is about 20 ft at a guess, so do you just put some weight on the line let it drift with the surf and use pilchards or prawns etc?

Any advise or tips would be appreciated.

Also what locations around Darling harbour are good to drop a line, I've been down at Pirrama r near Pyrmont but wondered what other areas you can do this.. (Oh I have no car, so that limits things)

Can you fish anywhere in the Harbour, or some areas no go?

  10. Tap him on the head, wait a few seconds and go to tap him again. When he raises his tentacles over his head to proctect himself just quickly pull the hook out.

On a serious note mate be wary if it is small with bluish spots cut the line quick. They are not good.

Thanks for that, IF I ever hook into one again i'll know what to do..Thanks for the heads up about the blue ring, my friend also told me so i'll be on the look out.

  11. My continued learning curve of fishing in Sydney saw me go down to Watsons Bay last night.

Turned out to be a fun couple of hours, a few small fish caught with mainly bream but also had a cuttlefish, and I got an Octopus!!

I was quite shocked by this as the lakes in central London aren't the places for creatures from horror movies :1prop: I do have a question though, how do you unhook one?

  12. What bait do you use for the mullet in the Nepean, I fancy giving it a go one time as have family up there but not sure what to do..Cheers

If all else fails I'll give some lures a crack and see if any bass are interested

  13. I have family up at Glenbrook, so next time I come up i'll pack the rod and take a look.

I have done some lure fishing down near Penrith before and got some bass, but what style/bait would you suggest for the mullet and carp?

    Thanks in advance!!

    John

  14. So I went back to Pyrmont today, and armed with a couple of new pier rigs and prawns had a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Unlike yesterday when I lost the fishes, today I caught my first fishes from Sydney Harbour!!

3 fish in total caught, one being a small bream and then a 30cm silver trevally (Thanks Jigholio for the advice!) so that was good.

Even though overcast today, it's still warmer fishing in Australia than the UK :1fishing1:

  15. *First Post*

Went down to Jones Bay, Pyrmont today for my first taste of Australian fishing (recently moved from UK)

Tried some different baits, spoke to some old guy who said you used mince meat mixed with egg white etc, but not sure how to make it stick properly for the water (tips please?)

Ended up using some prawns, lost a couple of fish one being a nice flounder (I think!) but will give it another shot later in the week. Quite a few nibbles, but only a couple of big bites so im guessing lots of little fish biting near the pier edge.

Anyone have any tips for this area?

    Cheers

    John
