  3. Hi All

Got out yesterday and headed straight to some of the outer reefs to grab a good feed of flatty and jackets first 3 fish jackets next 3 fish good flatties 60cm in the bag they go and over the side 10min had past and we were on to our next fish so i netted the fish pulled the hook out went to grab the bag from over the side and the thing is empty my first words as you can probablly imagine are F#%k, i think 1 of the jackets may have bitten a hole in the net and they all got out but 1 flathead so from now on i think i will be placing my keepers in a bucket

    Cheers

  4. Morning All,

Headed out yesterday to hit some of the outer reefs it was a great day plenty of fish caught, in the distance we could see alot of whale watching boats so we decided to have a look, we pulled up in line with the rest of the vessels about 150 meters from the whales, everyone was enjoying these majestic creatures until this goose in his 1 million plus fly bridge decides to plow straight through the middle and basically stop on top of the whales mean while the whale watching boats are blasting their hornes to get them to move but they just continued to harass the whales, so i would just like to remind people to keep their distance from the whales i think it is 100 meters but if you are one of the lucky ones and they approach you that is fine

    Cheers

  5. have u replaced the gearbox oil? if its milky u will be in a lot of trouble

Hey Gazza, yeah mate it has had a full service and all is good nothing but oil in the gearbox, the crack was 30mm shy of the gear box so nothing to worry about

  6. mate well done on the effort ,if you are to keep this motor start looking now for a new lower end,i reckon you will get 20hrs onit till the crack reapears ,but i hope you get alot longer can you take a pic after the first 10hrs and then 20hrs so we can all see how she holds up and top job mate cheers dunc333

I really think it will last alot longer than this as the crack has been this way for atleast 2-3 years and not gotten worse over this time so only now have i finally decided to tidy it up but will keep you informed cheers

  7. Hi All

Thought i would share my latest repair, the crack was bogged using kned it, it is as tough as nails and i think it came up very good for a total cost of about $40 materials and 2 hours labour over 2 days

    Cheers post-9009-028098700 1308285686_thumb.jpgpost-9009-072496800 1308285704_thumb.jpgpost-9009-038608200 1308285722_thumb.jpgpost-9009-056784600 1308285734_thumb.jpg

  8. Good luck finding another case mate,, same problem happened with with me, called every wrecker on the east coast with no luck...

It is a very common problem with the yamaha 90hp..

Decided to take it to the local welder who grinded the crack and welded it, cost me $50..Mine was just a straight line crack about 10cm..

As long as the crack doesn't go too far back to the actual gearbox sump, then you should be right by welding it whilst the case is on the engine...

Good guess Rumz it is actually on a Yamaha 70hp but i have been told these are very common i think the motor is about an 88 model

There is no water in the gearbox at all and i think it is about 20mm shy of the gearbox i have also looked every where for a lower case and have even gone as far a Queensland but with no luck

    Cheers

  9. Hi Raiders

Can anyone recommend something or way to fix the crack in the gear box case? the crack is about 20mm shy of the gears post-9009-026101400 1304901268_thumb.jpg

it was bogged before i purchased it but as you can see this is coming off, i have owned it now for 2 years with no issues

can anyone see a potential problem if this piece was to fall off the casing?

    Cheers

  10. Hi Guys

i have a very wealthy family member who is selling there cruise craft bowrider hustler 570 1990 model i think and they have asked me to make an offer no matter how ridiculous it is. The boat is in immaculate condition, in 2005 it was fitted with a brand new Mercury optimax 175hp hydrolic steering all new upholstery through out and since being installed it has done 42 hours this is correct as i have been out with them on most of the trips

My question is what are they worth and what should i offer?

    Cheers

  11. Fishing from a boat is fine though, as it is the harbour foreshore authority that has banned the fishing not the fisheries or waterways. i have seen the fisheries numerous times pull people up and check for fishing licences in the area without issueing fines

  12. Hi Raiders

I think i have found my next fishing location there would have been atleast 80 fish bream all 30cm plus, travally, leathers even a rat king but i think landing anything from here land based will be a challenge as there is alot of barnical covered structure and approaching by boat would just scare them off but i am going to give it go

Pic was taken from above water

  13. Yep i have left the ear muffs on before as well and one time forgot to put the safty cut out clip in and was trying to start the boat for about 15 minutes before this old fella walks past and says sounds like you have enough juice in the battery it must be the clip swinging from your set of keys you forgot to put in with a smile lets just say i have never forgotten either since then

  14. Hi All

i had an issue with the motor last week and have had to strip the head down and to my surprise there was a ridiculous amount of salt built up through out the cooling chamber it was that blocked that i was surprised the water was pumping through i always flush the motor after every use for around 3 minutes

My question is how long do you run your motor for to flush it and do you use any chemicals/soaps? do they work?

I guess the good point is is that i now have a clean cooling system but i need to keep it that way,

    Cheers

  15. Hi Guys

The hole is in the wall of the bottom cylinder head leading to the cooling chamber it is no bigger than a pin and the surrounding area looks as good as new apart from the ridiculous amount of salt build up i always flush the motor for a couple of minutes after each use but i guess this is not long enough any ways i have decided to take it to a welder tomorrow to have it done

    Cheers

  16. Hi Raiders

I have a 70hp yammaha that i just did a full service on after servicing i noticed that the tell tail had a slight studder in it but with full pressure so i investigated further, to cut a long story short i found a pin hole in one of the cylinders due to corrosion the nextstep is to pull down the head but before i go any further does anyone know if i could just weld this hole or does it need a new head

    Cheers

  17. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. Heading out to Sydney Harbour tomorrow morning also trying to track down a Kingy. Have been out 3 times over past 4 weeks. Have seen the Kings in the water next to the boat, have had my lure chased all the way to the boat only to be rejected and during last session was anchored close to someone landing a nice Kingy (at Flint & Steel). What does a bloke have to do to land his first Kingy? Like you I will take any advice. Better luck next time.

    Hey fshn4fn

If the kings are following your sp's to the boat and not taking have a squid or yakka preferably live rigged and ready waiting in your live bait well (if you have one)and drop it in front of them they will not resist

  18. may sound silly but oil in arms(hydralic) may be low or gone, happen to me just refilled and was like new.

    Hi Coasty1

Thanks for the suggestion I will try this, does the system need bleeding? and if there is no fluid left do you know where this has gone? there are no signs of any leaks what so ever

    Thanks
