  1. Great write up. Could not of done my Suzuki  85 impeller without this.
I had to adjust my shifter.
I loosened a 8 mm nut in the cable ending in cowling, removed the plastic lug from the linkage pin and turn the lug to adjust the neutral position, then re tightened but. This adjustment stopped the grinding noise noticed  when changing the gear selector. BCDBA017-118A-4022-BF18-A04C9DD377BA.thumb.jpeg.e2bb0388b9240821328513243f350ee1.jpeg

  2. The quest to catch a decent snapper from the rocks was acheived on Thursday  evening. A 51 cm snapper was landed at Maroubra.

I fish the bottom using squid for bait.  I run 30 lb braid and 40 lb black magic leader.  A long cast past the reef and onto the sandy bottom produced my fish.

  3. Hi Raiders,

Fished North Maroubra off the rocks. The whole area had this black moss, weed growing everywhere. Rock plates a must. Using squid for bait, caught two undersized snapper, which were quickly sent back.

Next cast, resulted in a solid run and a great fight. The ground swell assisted in washing this shark onto the rocks. He was hooked in the jaw and could not bite the line.

Not sure what type of shark, weight about 8-10 kg.

  4. Hi All,

Beat my mates on the golf course, decided to celebrate with a fish.

Fished North Maroubra off the bottom, using fresh squid for bait.

A strong SW was assisting the 1st cast around 4:50 pm.

At 5:50 with fading light (last cast) I was lucky to pull in this squire. It was 40 cm long and weighed 0.82 kg cleaned.

    No complaints here.

  5. Seized an opportunity this afternoon to wet a line at Maroubra.

A solid ground swell and high tide forced me to higher ground.

On sunset, using squid for bait, I caught a 42 cm squire, and a salmon around 2 kg.

By 6:10 pm, I pulled up stumps due to no light.

  6. Fished North Maroubra off the rocks, this afternoon. Used mack tuna strips for bait. Caught 1 squire 33cm and 1 salmon.

General question, when does a squire become a snapper?

    Over 2 kg?

Or does it need to have a hump on its head?

  7. Hi Raiders,

On Monday I trolled South of Botany Heads between 23 m and 30 m in depth.

Caught 3 Mack Tuna (about 1 to 1.5 kg). They all took small metal slugs (white). The bibbed lures were not touched.

    Sorry no pics.

  8. Thanks Raiders,

Sounds like the Nitro or Lox range might be an option.

Ray I have a similar rod, a 4120 schniderglass setup for an overhead for heavy spin, and it goes alright.

I am swaying towards high modular graphite even though it is not as robust as glass, especially on the rocks.

  9. Hi Raiders

I currently use a custom 8144 glass rod (3.66 m) with a 6.5 inch alvey for long casts into a NE wind. I need at least 80 meters cast to clear the reef and land on the sand to have any chance of a snapper. I use 20 lb schneider line, a 4 oz snapper lead and a 4/0 hook with short trace to improve aerodynamics.

I would like to upgrade to a lighter outfit without compromising rod length, fighting ability, or casting distance. I want to match it with a Daiwa saltist threadline.

I am happy to pay around $350 for a good rod. Any suggestions.

  10. Thanks for all the advice.

My catch has been lean lately and I got a bit desperate taking this fish.

I did fillet, skin, debone and cut into small chunks.

Used the fish in the stir fry and fed the family old boot stir fry.

The flesh did not flake away in the stir fry and there were no complaints.

  11. Hi All

Went to North Maroubra yesterday for a rock fish. A long cast is required to get past the reef, onto sand. I didn't put enough oommff on my first cast and ended on the reef. Brought it up to re-cast and found this fish on the end.

Does anyone know what it is. Scales small, very slimy not much of a fight.

I am planning to eat him today.

I also caught a keeper squire (snapper) and a trevally.
