  1. Hey Funny,

Nice to catch up with you, your missus and the kids.

Wyatt's radio conversation with me was a crackup.

I particularly loved his suggestion that I should enter my 40cm fish into the KID'S section of the comp !

I just told him that the kids section is the professional area and I'm not up to that standard yet....

Congrats on the prize - again - I'll win it someday - I just have to pass as an overgrown 10 year old....

    Tony

It was good to have some banter on the radio , there is even more here atm as Wyatt is still getting it from Trav , luckly the rooster beat the eels and now he is giving it back . We will be there again next year , did you get any more after i left ?

  2. Headed down to the bay on sunday with the youngest, my best mate and his daughter . We were to fish till 11am then the wife was bringing lunch and the eldest to fish in the arvo.

We started in the shallows at kurnell and the young fellow gets a 36 cm whiting in the first 10 minutes . Looking good i say to the mate as he YELLS GET THE NET GET THE NET .Gone , he lifts the head of a good flathead and he bites him off .Over the next hour we get around 15 bream but all around the 27 cm mark , too small. Next the mates daughter finally has a fish on and it looks ok , she plays it and it keeps taking line .Finally it comes into the boat , a good size Tarwhine of 31 cm , try tell a 9yr old that its not a bream .

We move around the bay for the next 2 hrs to only get more small bream until the tide starts flowing again. My mate snaps off a good bream again at the net , around the 38cm mark, hes having a bad day , mean while i finally get a good flattie 45 cm , that will do me for now .Matey gets a 28cm bream and his daughter a 27cm , so we are all on the board and off to brighton beach for lunch and a swim.

After lunch we head out about 100 metres off the beach to start fishing again , the mates gone home and its just the wife and eldest need a fish . BANG within 5 minutes the eldest is on and the wife nets a 40cm whiting , now i dont have to fish no more dad are the first words to come out of his mouth . ( i have just spent the last 5 hrs trying to catch 1 ). Get the net the young fellow screams as his has casted in the same spot and hooked another whiting 36cm again . Far out , all i want is a whiting for the sacret prize and i cant get one .Fishing 4 people in 1 boat is madness and i cant keep an eye on my rod as it screams off , its a whiting , good runs and up with the best elbow slappers i caught .Gone , the mate has rubbed off on me i say to my self as i cast in again .Stuff me now the wife wants the net and i net her a good bream 34cm. Were finished she says , we all have a fish , lets go dad as she starts the boat . Wait i still have a line in the water i tell her as it screams off again . Another good fish is played and lost so i call it quits giving up on the big whiting .

Hope everyone had a good day , cant wait till next year .

    P.S

It was good to see you Tony , at least you got a whiting .

  3. Got them on bread under a float , all sea mullet or bully mullet , you can only catch them in summer in freshwater , they go to sea to spawn around april ( the mullet run ) and dont return till october , during this time they dont feed on anything except planton thats why you cant catch them in salt water .

  4. Took the kids down the river for a quick fish after school today , got some mullet for bait as im hoping to go outside Botany on sunday if the swell dies down .Enjoyed the arvo with the boys , it was a great way to spend the arvo.post-9468-0-75393900-1359540147_thumb.jpg

  5. Hey Mr Funny !

Long time no hear from you.

Jeez mate - took you two whole hours to bag out on the bream ?

You must have been slouching around or something :1yikes:

Mate you never disappoint with your catches.

And the whiting look like good fish too.

    Are the fish spawning ?

They certainly are in Botany Bay.

I got one last week at 47.5cm,.

Anyways, mate well done - excellent catch and give us a bell if you're keen on fishing the bay in my boat - just gotta replace that blown wheel bearing from yesterday....

    Tony

    Big Tony

I have been missing your posts , 47.5 has pertek written all over it ,no fish spawning , just full of prawns , will try to get to the bay with you this year, its on the bucket list .

    Cheers

  6. Decided to travel up to swansea last night for a fish before going back to work.Arrived there at 4.30 to fish for bream till dark then try for some whiting after the sun goes down. The nor eastern was howling , last week was the southerly when i fished , headed up the channel and fished on the sand bar next to the airport .The tide had just changed so the boat was swing madly from side to side . This is perfect conditions for bream and whiting conditions as the baits drag along the bottom when the boat swings . We managed 20 bream in 2 hours before dark. Funny thing is most of the bream were full of stimulate berly which i didnt use , i dont use berly .Must have been someone elses burly.

With night fall came the prawns and then the whiting , every prawn was a fish ,it was none stop till 11 when we called it a night .

  7. Happy new year everyone

Got my first trip in for the year after a steaming 40 degree day .We put the boat in at sancutary point ramp and the plan was to fish a sand bar near the ramp .We lasted 10 minutes before the southerly hit at around 6pm so we headed over to the inlet for a bit of shelter for the winds .We fish at the entrance and it wasnt long to wait for bites . Bloody tailor on the bream gear . Every cast was a hook up and bust off. They were good fish well over 1.5 kg . Could only get them in half way till they bit me off . I persisted till 11pm getting 1 bream for every 4 bust offs. The best bream was a 42cm mobel which i skull dragged thinking it was a tailor . It was a good nite except for the wind . post-9468-076204800 1357447618_thumb.jpg

  8. How come why did you cut open the snappers guts in that way?

It looks like you are doing an autopsy for the camera.

Always do autopsy on every fish i catch , thats why i get so many , Anyway i was getting it ready to put straight on the barbie , so i cut off head and side fins before bbq , cheers

  9. That plastic looks pretty much the full size just the tail end missing therefore i assume the tail got bitten off and because that plastic had no more swimming action to it was replaced by that fisho and thrown back in the water. Boaties should always have a plastic bag in the boat for their rubbish and then thrown in bin at the ramp. I have seen fishing shows when their plastics are no good they cut them up in small pieces and burly with them. By the way, really nice quality eating fish caught there.

Yes mate ,it was tasty , the big red fed all the boys at cricket on sat arvo.

  10. Travelled up the coast to Crowdy Head for the long weekend . Wanted to go snapper fishing but after talking to the locals they all said the water was too cold at 16 degrees and wernt they correct . Fished for 4 hrs the first day with only 1 snapper but it was a good one tipping the scales at 7.5kgs.We cleaned the fish and it had 2 mados inside it .I always look at the guts of the fish i catch .The only burly we found inside it was the prawn shell for christmas that i threw over board .The 3 blocks of pilchards were no where to be seen .Got her on a floating pilly post-9468-025306700 1349075555_thumb.jpg

Day 2 was a little better weather wise but only 1 red .Burly was again pillies and some garfish .This time the fish had a garfish head and a soft plastic with no sign of the hook .Does anyone know how long this would stay inside a fish before it breaks down post-9468-088456400 1349075527_thumb.jpg Again got it on a floating pilly . We then had a drift for some flatties

It was a poor weekend but i thing it was dur to the cold water .

  11. Hey Funny,

Long time no hear from you.

I guessed you would have been busy with work.

I reckon your kids would have driven you nuts in the last 4 months to take them for a fish.

And the proof of the nuttiness is that you went out in 40 knot winds with 1.5m surge...

I'm sure you should rename your boat to "NorthWestern" or "Time Bandit", or Kodiak or Ramblin Rose or Cornelia Marie or any of the DEADLIEST CATCH boats.

Only them guys aren't scared by hurricane force winds to make their catch.

Nice size on the bream mate - even the mullet are decent fish as well.

Yeah I've seen those snapper and big flatties in that pond - woulda love to wet a line in there....

I haven't been in the bay for ages as well.

Last trip I did was in the river a month ago - not many bream but the salmon in there made it interesting for me.

Just itching for a reasonable weather day to go and see if there is any life on my grounds.

I'm sick and tired of buying Atlantic salmon, barramundi, pink ling, etc - I want some REAL fish.

    Give me bream'n'whiting anyday !

    Tony

It was a good catch in bad conditions , poor water temp too . You have fished gentlemen times this year , the weather has warmed up , get out there Tony , the bream are waiting .

  12. Sounds like a great day out. Heaps of fish and time with your son.

Is Husky creek where it runs into JB near that little bridge and fishing is not allowed? Are there just lots of fish hanging out there? Or is it a facility/attraction of some kind? Sounds really interesting.

Yes mate its a facility where you can feed the fish , we have been feeding them for years .You can buy food or just take leftovers to feed them .

  13. Finally after a 4 month absence from fishing i finally got a weekend off work and had planned a trip fishing with the family . Did a few checks on the important factors and it was all bad . The wind was up and 1 of the boys was sick so we were down to just a father and son trip. Now to work out where to fish , what spots are going to be out of the wind .

We picked Sussex as it would be protected and i wanted to show the boy all the fish in the pond at Husky creek. We left home at 8 and pick up some worms ( incase the whiting were around )and headed down .We dropped the boat into the wind and headed across the bay .Half way over and there was a 1.5 metre surge running untill we got around the point and got into the channel .

We set the boat up and i looked at the sounder , the water temp was 13.3 , no whiting in that water so we started fishing for mullet instead. It was windy and we needed the 2 anchors to stop the boat swaying around everywhere. The burly deployed and it didnt take long for the fish to arrive .We fished solid for the next 3 hrs with no another boat in sight .We only got 1 whiting and all the bream didnt fight which i think was due to the cold water .

We took nearly 1 hr to get back across the bay as the wind was so bad but it was worth it .

Then we headed over to Husky creek where all the boy could say was its just a big dream .It still amazes me to see all them fish and how big they are .We had 4kg flathead hitting the pilchards as soon as they hit the water , at 1 stage we had 4 sitting there on top of each other .Even got to see a 3kg snapper hit the pilly , what a sight .

We headed home and had to do all the cleaning on sunday ,WHEN IT WASNT WINDY :ranting2:post-9468-062672900 1347263034_thumb.jpg
