  1. I'm sick of the "Nanny" society we live in, I can go "base jumping" or sky diving, but I have to wear a life jacket all the time in MY boat.Freedom is supposed to be valued, the Maritime authorities don't realy care if I live or die, but the revenue from fines & the extra tax generated by the forced sale of all the extra jackets will look good to them.

  2. Went out on Friday to try for a few Tailor (for the smoker) or Flathead.Started about 7am after waiting for the waterfront construction guys to leave the ramp(sick of them).Tried Burraneer them Bundeena for 1 squid & 1 Bonnie. Buy about 12:30 things weren't looking to good,so we headed back to Lilli Pilli to find the bay alive with surface fish feeding. The next 2 hours were very hectic with the Tailor between 35cm to 48cm plus a mack tuna as a surprise for the Port.Caught them at Port Stevens years ago but not inside in Sydney. After about 10 fish we were only keeping fish that were deeply hooked & damaged, even so we reached our bag limit(which is far to much work cleaning) without trying, & left them biteing.Just before the storm the whole of the bay between Lilli Pilli & Yowie Bay was alive with fish, just like I remember from Toooooo long ago.Plenty of fillets were enjoyed on a Sunday Barbie in the rain.Just for those that don't rate Tailor on the plate, keep the fillets in the fridge for a day, then skin & cook, keeping them firms the flesh up making skinning easy & done in a tempura batter they are delicious...

  3. I camp down an Kiola every christmas.

Can be a good spot when its not over fished in the holidays.

Try up around Bawley Point next time you are there

Why do people leave the "O" out of KIOLOA especially when they say it. ???????

  4. With all the good green weed around at the moment ( bad omen, plenty of bait few fish) I decided to go up the Georges for blackfish ( only Spanish for black) on the falling tide, which was not until 12:45. Hit the water at 8 am with a plan to troll minows from the oil wharf across the heads, through Yarra bay & back to Mouli point.Well, did all that for zilch  .Next, drift the front of the wall jigging -nothing, went around the western corner to be greeted with a wonderful site of fish feeding everywhere. Well, had a plan for this too, a tiny slice with two single hooks. It lasted three casts with large Salmon following, it's swallowed by a Tailor, one lure gone.Changed to other slices & minnows no good, put on a black & gold Squidgie & finally hooked a Salmon,a pleasant few miniutes fighting it on 3 kg untill landed, life is good again. :1prop:

The schools became scarcer as the Nor Easter came up around 11am, so around 11:45 decided that the Luderick were now the target. So up the river to my favorite spot to catch the tide change, & the success that I have become used to in the last few months here. "Pride goeth before a fall" :05: & all I could get were undersized fish in the next two hours, so the wind, floating ribbon weed, & river traffic, (which include the Army with punts & barges & lots of soldiers whipping the river to froth) I decided to call it a day, but as we all say here" An ordinary Day Fishing is better than a day doing almost anything else"

  5. Luderick everywhere, well almost. Started out at 8:30 (love the hours blachfish keep) only the second trailer at the "hole in the wall" I thought it would be busier, but the grey skies might be the reason.

Headed up river & picked up my mate, then to our favorite spot, guessing ,guessing :tease: just opposite the

"the pallette" :074: Anyway the fish were on & hungry for about an hour, every drop a fish or a bust off  . When the wind got up we tried a few more comfortable spots but buy then the tide had slowed & as they say "no run, no fun".

We called it a day with 19 in the keeper, to 39cm many undersized returns & lots of fun had :yahoo: .Then the "making a meal" of it has to be done. Probable the reason a lot of fishers don't like fish. :biggrin2:post-9501-1254541581_thumb.jpgpost-9501-1254541581_thumb.jpg

  6. Gday raiders.. Im about to buy a fish finder for my tinny. I mainly fish the harbour and was wondering if anyone had any advice on which fish finder is working well. Looking at spending around $300. There seem to be only two that suit my price range, the eagle fishmark 320 or the hummingbird matrix 12. Are there any other options??

    Appreciate any advice cheers Vinni

    Hi Vinni

I've had a Garmin 120 for 4 years & found it great for estuary work, high pixel count & good definition at the right price. The 140 is almost the same but is "dual beam".

  7. Great haul of blackies

I might go and try the parra lanbased, it seems theres alot of blackies around, any tips appreciated

    Cheers hazza

Hazza & Groper, give it a go, get fresh weed, (the hardest part) keep your rig simple, weight your float so that only the stem is above water, & be patient on the strike.

    Good luck

  8. Just back in from a pleasant sunday of "blackie" fishing on the lower Georges. After a "gentlemen's hours" start at 9am we headed down river to our favorite spot (opposite "the pallett" a spot resently mentioned here.Caught about 6 fish then moved down to Blakehurst area where we did no good at all  . So back up to our original spot where we caught fish slowly except for a half hour when they went crazy. :1fishing1: Gave it away at 1:30 with 19 fish in the bag, & many more 'bust offs" & a few undersized fish returned. :1prop: Smoked fillets on the menu :1wine:
