  1. Awesome

    Thanks for the advice.

What about plastics or other hard body lures?

I've got a tackle box full of them that don't get used anymore so I'd like to put them back into commission.

Also I have to add that it is an honour to get a response from the swordfisherman so early in my posting career, I hope this is the first of many, as your knowledge would be handy to tap into.

    Cheers

  2. Hey Raiders

First off, let me thank all the guys for the responses on my last post, had a great day ssh the sun rise over maroubra beach, didn't catch a thing, not even a cold, but it was still great none the less.

Now onto this post, has anyone fished anywhere around lambeth park recently? If so, are there any whiting about?

I'm thinking about trying out some poppers on them but as I'm new to poppers I'd kinda like to at least know fish are there so if I don't catch anything I can blame the fisherman, not the lack of fish.

Many thanks in advance for any replies posted

    Jacks.

  3. Sorry guys i should've mentioned that we are heading out at about 4am, although plans have changed a little bit, we are now fishing maroubra (thanks guys ;-) )

I am now equipped with pillies both salted and plain, 63 and 75 gram star bomb sinkers and some gang hooks. Also got myself some halco chromies because i'm still a fisherman at heart and believe i never have enough gear.

If i even catch 1 fish i'll be stoked.

Thanks once again for everybody's help, I can hardly wait to out the and get amongst it.

If anyone is gonna be out there between 4 and 8am, come say hello. (We'll be the guys that are probably fishing the wrong spots and looking like we have no idea of what we are doing.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend fishing.

    Cheers

  4. Hey Rich

Thanks a lot for your response.

Although when you say that cronulla is not very productive, would it be worth my timer to possibly drive to a different beach, cronulla is just the only one I know.

I live in the bankstown area so cronulla really isn't close for me either.

    Thanks again.

  5. Hey guys

This saturday I'm heading out to cronulla for my first ever go at surf fishing with another newbie mate.

Just wondering if any of the surf fishing gurus on fish raider could give me some advice e.g. where to fish, what baits or lures to use, what type of rig and what I should be expecting to catch.

I don't really plan on doing that well but just to be out is better than being in the office. :-)

    Any help us greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Jacks.

  6. Hey guys just heading up around newcastle on monday and tuesday and just wondering if someone wanted to come along or give me some advice. I don't have a boat and have no idea where to fish up there as i'm from Sydney.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Many ppl have alot of success with lures at night. I do quite well with plastics in the day but havnt done too well at night. Although i cant say i really do enough night fishing to know for sure. I tell u what does work a treat though. I have alot of success using jackall chubby's in the georges river at night. I think the rattle in them helps and they have a good erratic movement. Ive caught stacks of bream, flathead, even small jew on them in pitch darkness. Ive only really ever trolled them tho as seeing structure or the shoreline in the night is very difficult.

    Musty

    Cheers Musty

I'll have to go get some of those jackall chubby's.

What part of the georges do you fish if you don't mind me asking?

    Thanks

  8. Hi Guys

I was just wondering if you can use lures at night and if so what colours and lures work best.

I'm fishin for the usual whiting, bream and flathead.

    Thanks in advance

    Jacks

  9. Hi Jacks I agree with Davemmm. The best idea with lures is to only buy 5 of the best proven performers for the particular species in a few different colours and simply don't buy anything else..... When you have done that you'll feel confident knowing that you only have good performers in your tackle box..... From that point keep step with new technology by reading what our top lure fishermen have to say in forum when discussing the merits of new arrivals, particularly lures which are actually working better for them as shown in their fishing reports.

Rather than just chosing lures myself and under or overdoing it or listening to too many other people, I did not hesitate to ask other Fishraiders for advice, sum it up and then just go out and buy confidently.

Here is a link to my inquiry about the latest and best flathead lures as an example.

    http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.ph...c=34873&hl=

Hope this helps and I am sure you'll receive the best advice possible for your bream and whiting lures from our bream and whiting specialists.

    Cheers

    Thanks alot for your reply

I am currently building up my supply of sp's and hb lures but now need an outfit that is purposely put together for this reason.

I currently have two lightweight rods and two small (2500 approx) reels.

It looks like i will get myself a shimano symetre 1000 reel but would love to know what match it to for best results.

    Jacks

Also if anybody knows anywhere around panania/east hills to practice with sp's and hb's i'd be very greatful.

Or even better if someone would be willing to put there hand up to teach me a few things would be fantastic.

It's a very tall ask, but if you don't ask you'll never know. :biggrin2:

  10. That's the exact reel i would like but can't seem to find one under $170 anywhere.

I was thinking $300 just for the rod and reel, i've already got plenty of SP's and a couple of stiffy poppers, but will no doubt buy more next time i go to a tackle store.

I mean i pretty much already spend my pay each week at different tackle store around, hence why i don't mind going out and buying a rod specifically for lure work.

    Thanks

    Jacks

  11. Hey guys and girls

I want to start using lures and things for catching bream and whiting and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on rods and reels that work good together in a combo for this purpose, $300 is about my limit.

Also anyone care to tell me some base lures i could buy as some starters?

    Thanks in advance

    Your very keen fishing friend

  12. G'Day all

What about a general tackle talk? We have had several requests on the forums for information on:

Mono vs Fluro (and the merits of each)

    Joining leader to braid

    Knots

    Any thoughts?

    Hodgey

    Hey all

I would definitely be up for this one as i am very new to fishing and by the sounds of things have so so so much to learn.

If this ever goes ahead i will be on the list to be there

    Thanks

    Jacks

  13. Hey everyone

I am looking for a landbased area to have a fish around the bankstown area.

I don't mind having a bit of a drive but i am sick of driving to the central coast every time i wanna fish (only place my mate thinks there is fish)

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Also would love it if i could use soft plastics in the area recomended.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jacks
