I have recently installed a 82Lb MG into my boat and was after some advice....

How and where have you hard mounted the foot pedal ? Do you use it sitting down or standing up ?

Is there anyway that you can have it "fix" in one position while taking your foot off the control ? The minute i take my foot off, it just spins around 180 degrees at a time, from one side back to the next. Which setting do you have it on? The burst setting, full power or speed adjust?

Sorry for sounding like a noob, i am just after some tips. it is a big difference going from a transom mount up to the foot controlled bow mount.

Thanks

Warwick.

Which model did you get?

And was it bought new?

The spinning you talk about doesn't sound right at all.

I have a new 82lb MG on my boat, too, and have had no problems (touch wood), other than the fact that the shop that installed it didn't tighten everything up, which made for an interesting first trip out!

Like I said, the spinning around isn't the right thing at all - might be worth getting that checked out pretty soon...

Hi Sputnik,

Yep, it was bought new. And it is the Great White Saltwater series.

I may clarify what i said about the spinning. It spins around if there is any rocking of the boat, or you take your foot off the control. Is it supposed to stay in the current position when you remove your foot ?? Mine seems to want to turn to full lock so to speak either way? Maybe it is just my naivety and need to learn how to use it a bit better?

Does yours stay in a fixed position (anywhere in the allowable movement) when you take your foot off the pedal? I imagine that it would be difficult for that to happen as it is cable driven rather than servo driven.

I have a servo-driven (Digital) 82lb motor - and the motor doesn't turn at all when I take my foot off the pedal.

I'd give the guys at Motorguide Australia (I think they're part of Mercury here) a call and see if they can offer any advice - they were incredibly helpful when I called them prior to buying mine.
