Davy
Hey all, Great weather today not too hot, got there around 7am and scoped out the place for about half an hour first. Fished a little 'mangrove' sort of patch which was about a 10 min walk from Mooney Mooney bridge down the descending grassy path/cliff. Using fresh prawns as bait, we hooked on to MANY undersize bream and some nice tailor just scraping the legal limit, which were then realeased, as my dad wasnt a fan of eating tailor. Tried a little 12 gram spanyid lure to try get the bigger tailor to play, but got no result. After about 8:30, came a swarm of eels (I really hate them!) after hooking up to about 6 eels (which was kind of fun) and a blue swimmer, we started to move back up towards the bridge. When things got more quiet i switched to my SP rod and flicked out alittle wriggler, after about the 4th cast i hooked on to a PB bream on SPs Not catching many big bream on SPs i thought this was a great size at 30cm. Packed up and left about 10 am. Some other blokes that were fishing under the bridge managed a couple of nice flathead around 65cm or so. Not a bad day considering ive been catching zilch the past 3 outings. Cheers Davy Edited March 5, 2006 by Davy

jewnut
well done Davy, i take it you were fishing the Sydney side of the bridge? I love fishing there when im landbased, especially when its raining and you can sit under the bridge in comfort...geez i love the Hawkesbury!! anyway, if you walk along the path past the bridge youll come to a point (theres a big rock that sits just off the shore but you can get to it) which is a good spot for jewies, only ever got schoolies but there still fun. fish it on a run out when the eddy forms there and fish as light a sinker as possible as its VERY snaggy bottom. Little_Flatty
Well done Davy! Sounds like you had a good morning with your dad. Obviously uni is still going easy on you! Make the most of it before sleepless nights and looming deadlines creep up on you!

Thnx mate i might actually try that, as i have been looking for a spot around there to try for jewfish. Would it be just as effective if you use a float? to avoid being snagged? Obviously uni is still going easy on you! Make the most of it before sleepless nights and looming deadlines creep up on you! Haha, yea it hasnt been too stressful quite yet, the first week consisted of cancelled lectures due to a black out. jewnut
Davy, never tried a float as the jews will mainly be holding close to the bottom, just use a light enough sinker to just hold bottom and if the line comes back in to close to the rocks wind in fast before it snags. by the way, did you get that bream high up in the water column as the tide normally races through there and id imagine it would be hard to fish light plastics? Nah, mate from the ramp, we walked towards the bridge then all the way under it,then turned left and walked all the way down the descending cliff to a little point, where we had to walk through some bush to get to. was about a 10-15 min walk.
