mottyman
Hi Raiders, Geoff and I were planning a big day in the Bay on Saturday but the wind obviously put that idea to bed so we headed up the Georges to a few of our favourite river spots and had an absolute ball. Nice run out tide and the wind not a factor at all where we were, we scored loads of bream (kept three) as well as about 100000 whiting!!!! The biggest of the whiting were only just legal so they all went back but they were in plague proportions hitting out plastics before they even touched the bottom. By far the lure of the day was the Berkley Gulp 6" sandworm. These things accounted for a huge number of fish (both bream and whiting) and were easily outfishing our baits. The whiting were that keen on them they were taking them clean off the jig head. We ended up going through so many plastics we started cutting them in half, then into thirds!!! Didn't really matter so long as you left a little "wiggly" bit, they were all over it like a rash!!! We also scored two flatties, again on the sandworms but they were released. In all, we had a fantastic day playing with the fish, telling jokes, being blokes and generally just having a good time. Geoff has the pics on his camera so they'll get put up soon. Cheers David. We put in at Oatley and fished our favourite spots all over. Can't give away too much mate but I'm not into smudging the background in photos either LOLOLOLOL!!!! Cheers David. Flattieman
Sounds like a great day! I was out on the Bay at the same time. Caught heaps of whiting between 25 and 27cm and undersized flatties. Ended up with 2 keeper bream and a keeper trevally. Posting report soon. It was annoying that the whiting weren't legal-sized. Beautiful weather once that wind died. Flattieman. mottyman
Hey Flattieman, The two whiting in the pic were about the average size, some were a bit bigger but not by much. Yeah, if they were a decent size we'd have had a beaut feed of fillets, they were like mice in a grain silo they were that thick fair dinkum..... Never mind, Andy and I are having baked bream for dinner tonight!! Cheers David. Edited April 9, 2006 by mottyman

mottyman
Hi David, Great story, I have wondered about that sandworm gulp - did you have to give it any motion or was it just like bait fishing ? Hi Haraka, Mate, at one stage we were fishing them on a normal every day sinker, swivel, trace rig and fishing them just the same as live worms from the bait shop simply drifting along. No action at all and the fish jumped all over them. I also fished them on my bream gear on squidgy jig heads and flicked up against structure, same result. They are so much like a real worm it's remarkable. They stink to high heaven and look that realistic it just isn't funny. We were also cutting them down as we were just feeding them to the fish at one stage. Once cut down we got 4 or 5 fish off the same piece of worm. That sounds like a great day to me Dave Great report Hi Clutch, a much better day than we'd hoped for given the forecast and terrible wind. Have you seen the swell off Sydney today????? 5-6 metres and most Sydney beaches are closed!!!!! Thanks mate, yep, we had a ball and I'm sold on the Berkley Gulps I have to say. Cheers, David.
