mrmoshe
FISHERIES officers are implanting microchips into lobsters and netting poachers in an elaborate sting. The high-tech devices are the New South Wales Government's latest weapon in the war against the multi-million dollar poaching industry. The chips cost just $11 and are similar to those placed in domestic dogs and cats all over the state. Microchips are injected into the flesh of a lobster near its tail. Then the lobster is scanned by a digital reader, which logs details of the crustacean which are stored in a database. Advertisement: Stolen lobsters can be identified when poachers try to sell them at fish markets, where traps containing up to 100 lobsters can fetch $6000.
