pk-fishn
gday guys, i am planning another trip to the spit, to catch some bait then set out some livies or fresh squid for some bigger fish and have a flick of the plastics in the sandy areas and structure whilst doing so ( i like being proactive doin two things at once).. i was just wondering on the map attachment that comes with this, out of anyones experience roughly where is the best place to try for squid and yakkas and bait (which coloured dots??) or do most areas produce. no secret spots or anythin just want to berley up and catch some livies and fish around the different structures and learn the area better as i have fished here quite a bit but not for live bait and not setting livies out.. you can PM me if you dont want to show the info. any help appreciated.. cheers pk Edited April 24, 2006 by pk-fishn

Davy
Hey pk, Im not an expert on the spit but i use to fish it almost every week when i was in high school, and have tried all the spots that have been marked on the pic..so i'll tell u what i have caught there Red - I fished this spot the most out of my time at the spit and have caught ur usual bread and butter fish..flatties bream leather jackets etc. if ur after some thumper bream cast to ur right under the bridge middle as far as u can near the pylons.. i have also heard someone landing small kings and cobia there as well. Blue - Squid. and undersized fish. best done when sun is rising (obviously) Yellow - If ur refering to under the bridge mostly bream can be caught from the shore, plenty of snags too. Green - actually i havnt fished these spots that much but there were plenty of tailor and other small pelagics harassing a school of yakkas last time. Also from the green dots try walking the track that goes to manly. first few metres on ur right you shud find some very useful hidden paths that lead to some rock platforms. my friend has caught a few rat kings by casting live squid in between and near the boats. Oh you can also get some yakkas off the platforms as well, if ur willing to bargain with the MILLIONS of undersized fish. we found it extremely difficult to catch decent fish with dead baits, livies are more likely not to get picked at. Hope thishelps Davy Edited April 24, 2006 by Davy

Hope thishelps Davy davy thans heaps mate for the advice given, by the way i know exactly wich rock platform your talking about this is where i planned to take my livies gathered and set them out i had a mate tel me bout this spot too, there is a hole about 30-40m out near the moored boats i fished it out of my cousins boat last week and we got reds and a king so hopefully the livies and burley will bring some results. ive found that middle harbour fishes well for bigger fish in the new moon period and places wih light such as clifton gardens and the spit bridge attract the predatory fish. and yes i agree livies work better here, thats why i want to really target them this time, and by the the foreshore park facing the marinas is that any good for squid and flatties cause from the aerial shots it looked pretty good !! cheers pk Edited April 24, 2006 by pk-fishn
