caine
i saw a 30cm one at parramattta next to westfields i didnt think they made them that small how can fish shops get away with selling undersized fish, bream flat head ect and the average weekend fisho gets his balls ripped off for it
Gibbofisho
I freeze dollies and reckon they are fantastic, i had mine steamed last night with some honey soy and chilli and it was fantastic. BTW to the above, there is no legal length for them, becasue they ahve such a fast growth rate, they double their size in 6 weeks or something like that and start breeding at 6 months old. There were undersized kingies at our local fish markets’ when I asked the question I was told that they were not locally caught so NSW size limits do not apply. What is needed is for all states to have standardized size limits also standard fish names to cut the confusion and the rip offs.
Sharky
I know what you mean about seeing undersize fish in the fish markets I asked the same question when it came to bream and the reply was they were caught in QL and the legal size is 23cm, I said that fish doesnt even look 20 cm and he said the trawlers are allowed a 10% margine for error. It really pissed me off.

My local, penrith seafoods often has dollies for sale. If your ever lucky enough to go to sydneys wholesale fish auctions you`ll see them for sale when in season dan

Guest Big-Banana
They dont keep Dolly's because they freeze bad and dont keep well after a few days even if kept cold and looked after. Who told you that? I had a dolly in the freezer cooked after about 3 months and came out great. Thats an old wives tale. Its actually the only fish I know that keeps its flavour.
