baron
Hello Raiders, Have been reading the reports for a while now and have been fishing the bay for a while too. Have hit all the good spots in search of a Kingy without success. I think the key to my success would be some decent live bait...can anyone give me some tips as to where the best place is to catch them? I have also heard talk of Yakka's - what are these ? They are Yellowtail or scad which ever you like to call them and are caught around the Bay in many spots Called Yakas at times as well Berley with chook pellets and tuna oil or fish pieces, use a bait jig or NUMBER 10 long shank hook with a small split shot with a small piece of pilchard on the hook and you should score a few, try not to handle the livebait with dry hands and better to shake them into your live bait tank just by holding the shank of your hook, hence the long shank version here. A small child's butterfly net is ideal to get them back out of your tank when you are ready to use them and they can be gripped in the net for hook insertion above the lateral line or lip hooked if you prefer. baron
Thanks for that advice Swordfisherman, I'll give that a go tomorrow and may even post my first report. One more question, is it best to float the yakkas out without a sinker to nail a Kingy? Cheers Baron
BottomBasher
On a quite day at the boat ramps, try your luck there i find better size yakkas there and not as picky. bait jig and mince meat the best way to catch them.Have fun and looking foward to your catch.
