The most common beach fish in Sydney are tailor and Australian salmon, followed by flathead and whiting. There are also jewfish (mulloway) at night, which I think you would enjoy catching, but they are not as common as the others. In rivers (estuaries), the most common fish are bream, flathead, whiting and trevally, followed by yellowtail kingfish, jewfish, snapper, tailor and Australian salmon. Australian bass and Estuary Perch are also present as well as baitfish such as yellowtail and slimy mackeral. Most lakes carry Brown and Rainbow trout, redfin and carp. Some are also stocked with Australian bass. Although this guide doesn't identify them, it will help generally: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pd...ide_2005-06.pdf Flattieman
