mrmoshe
Blonde Ice Fishing A blonde wanted to go ice fishing, so after getting all of the right tools, she headed toward the nearest frozen lake. After getting comfy on her stool she started to cut a circular hole in the ice. Then from the heavens a voice boomed, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' Startled, the blonde moved further down the ice, poured a thermos of hot chocolate and started to cut yet another hole in the ice. The voice boomed, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' This time quite scared, the blonde moved to the far end of the ice. Then she started another hole and once again the voice said, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' The very scared blonde raised her head and said, ''Is that you, Lord?'' The voice answered, ''NO. IT IS THE MANAGER OF THE ICE RINK.''

Flattieman
if some one needs a partner for the hair tail night I would love to come. I am always keen but always boatless Caine, If you put an expression of interest in the "Hairtail Social" thread, you may be able to get a place on the night. Flattieman. VoodooChile78
Mate, I think you have a US ice-fishing rod; Finnish rods have the reel built into them, check out the pics of me having a crack when I was recently in Finland. They are shorter and the reels are more like a non-turning Alvey than a spinning reel. Rigs are simple as; a 3-4kg main line down to a spoon-shaped lure with a single hook either baited with earth worm or maggot but now more commonly Berkley Gulp mini earth worm or maggot soft plastic baits. We were chasing what we know here as Redfin Perch as well as Trout, though you can also get Pike as well. I know the one in the pic was no world beater but it was my first one! The mother-in-law gets them regularly over 30cm and over the half kilo mark. Ya work your ass off drilling through the ice hoping that the water below is deep enough and the fish are there…or you will be drilling again! You drop your line down til you hit bottom, wind it up a little so it’s about 10-30cm off the bottom and then start to jig it up and down. Finns don’t use those huts either, they seem to be for the creature-comfort needing yanks, we were fishing 300km above the Arctic Circle out in the open…comfort was opting for a reindeer skin to plonk your butt on! Even when it was snowing like some sort of Discovery Channel Blizzard special, the wind howling like a Cyclone, I loved it…like all fishing, you don’t care, all you want is “the big” one! Only other problem is if you get a good one, most holes are only 4-6in in diameter; they were telling stories of getting Pike that only the head would fit up the hole! I am keen to get back over there for another go, loved driving the snow-mobile through the postcard-like wilderness to a lake in the middle of no-where…nothing beat the peace of it…only thing better was the company, finns are bloody good people and the obligatory campfire by the lake…just like here, no coffee tastes better than campfire coffee! Hope that gives you a little taste of what it’s like! Mike L. PS – they have big ice-fishing comps over there…prizes include cars, holidays…there is even one tagged Trout in one the main lakes that is worth 1 million Euro ($1.6million AUD) if caught!
