Dont Like Carpet

Hi all

Almost ready to pick up my boat. Will fit it out myself. Are there any decent alternatives to marine carpet. Something not so fuzzy. Has any one tried using any sort of eva or similar. Will cork tiles be any good (other then finishing it with curry-butt sealant to annoy Haraka when he is on board).

If anyone wants to dispose of any unused chair pedestels and any other fittings and stuff in exchange for rods and such then give me a yell.

Do anyone of youse know plastic welding? I intend to do storage and wells and stuff to the shape of the boat contours to maximise space

This may sound nuts, and i havent done it, but have you thought of using marine carpet upside down ? Its quite soft underfoot without too much fuzziness. Very grippy and looks good. Just a thought. Otherwise marine anti slip painted straight onto the floor.

go down to clark rubber and get it cut to size, brilliant stuff! no smell! easy to wash

Marine carpet is the most practical solution, its durable and designed to withstand the elements, its light, easy to work with and install and pretty cheap when compared to some other materials.

I dont know why you would want anything else????

If its because you dont want to permanantly fix the carpet down, you can always look at either fixing it with velcro strips or pressed studs.

Oh, and one more thing, I just couldn't resist.........

Have you got a motor for it yet or your just gonna "Rohit"

Looking for something with closed surface as I am too lazy to pick out all the braid tag cutoffs, scales, dirt, blood, terminals and the is very paranoid about tiny sharp objects in carpet and very ossesive compulsive about picking out each little bit of hair and rubbish from carpets. A closed surface will make for a much relaxing trip

I wouldn't want carpet if I couldn't remove it for cleaning. All I have done was paint the ply floor of my tinny with exterior enamel. sprinkling fine sand into the last 2 coats while still wet. This gives a good non-slip surface, but is a bit rough under the feet.

I loose-lay a piece of marine HD carpet on top of the anti-skid ply, and it doesn't move at all - no fixing needed. When I get home, I remove the carpet, hang it over the clothes line and blast it with water, from the underside first (to loosen the crud) and then on the upper surface, but from an angle to remove all the gunk.

If I am crabbing up a muddy creek and expect to get lots of dirt aboard, I can leave the carpet at home and put up with the rough ply.

I was just looking through the latest bias boating catalogue and came across a posible alternative for you, on page 28 half way down the third colum there is listed Non Skid Plastic Rolls - 305mm wide x 3.65 metres - can be cut to size with a knive available in three colours - beige, grey & white and $16.95 per roll.
