Guest Aron
Hi all, While the weather is S**t i have decided to some maintenance on the boat trailer. I have a 480 freedom sport on a dumbier tralier, i have unloaded the boat off the trailer to do the work. Work required: 1) Make new light gaurds one day while launching at oatley in a Southerly wind at about 10Km the boat got sidways when i was pulling it into the beach, i did not think it hit the trailer (could not see as the trailer was submersed) it bent the flimsey sheet metal light gaurd and scraped the hull slightly . Im going to make new light (solid) gaurds that will not do any damage the boat if it hapens again (shouldn't as i now drive off) Can someone recommend where i can get items galvanised. 2) Change the plastic strip on the skid Because i scraped the bottom of the hull (had to in the same line as the skid) i need to replace 1 side as it is damaged - goudged Where can one purchase the strip from - i have been to bias and could not find it there Also, while the boat is high & dry in the garage i have inspected the scrape and have removed (sanded) all the high points/jags - the scrape is about 1/2mm deep at the worst - should i worry about it - do i need to have a specialist look at it, has any one scraped the bottom of the aluminium boat before and if so what did you do Thanks
Guest Dont Shoot Da Chinamen
hey buddy with the 1/2 mm scratch it should be fine as ur bottom plate should be at least 2-3mm thick and I really don't think there is a concern there buddy is the scratch on the rib or inbetween the ribs (were it is con-curved)?? Flightmanager
G'day Aron , What about plastic guards ? No corrosion , light weight , if the boat hits it , it will probably spring back into shape , and wont scratch the hull. Not too sure about the strip for the runner , perhaps a boat trailer manufacturer? Ross
george.s
g'day Aron I find that it's cheaper to buy the gal gaurds than to make them but as flightmanager said the plastic ones are tops checkout the ones I fitted to matt t 's trailer. as for the skid strip you can get it from bias I got some last week it's $9.90 for 1.5m . Guest Aron
Thanks for your replys g'day Aron I find that it's cheaper to buy the gal gaurds than to make them but as flightmanager said the plastic ones are tops checkout the ones I fitted to matt t 's trailer. as for the skid strip you can get it from bias I got some last week it's $9.90 for 1.5m . i had a looked at the photos of that trailer george, you did a great job - but i did not see the plastic light gaurds - do you mean the wheel gaurds when you said plastic? G'day Aron , What about plastic guards ? No corrosion , light weight , if the boat hits it , it will probably spring back into shape , and wont scratch the hull. Not too sure about the strip for the runner , perhaps a boat trailer manufacturer? I would rather buy the gaurds than make them - and plastic would be perfect - do you know where i can get some? hey buddywith the 1/2 mm scratch it should be fine as ur bottom plate should be at least 2-3mm thick and I really don't think there is a concern there buddy the bottom is 3mm thick, the scrape was really jaggered like a course hacksawblade, i filed the sanded back the high spots - but with it being jagged it certainly over time shreaded the skid strip. Hey buddy, i also bought the skid strip a few weeks back at bias for around $15, maybe the store you went to was out of stock Thanks netic, i will go back there and see Edited July 19, 2006 by Aron
george.s
sorry mate I didn't read yout post right I thought you wanted to make new mudguards. if you ever need them buy them from the manufacturer at peakhurst they are half the price of the trailer mobs.
