fish otter
Sounds good, fish otter! Do you have a camera? - I'm sure we'd all like to see some photos. Flattieman. Yes i've taken photos, i just have to finish the film so i can develop them and ill scan then and put em up! Lol my daughter lost our digital camera! Ill take pics of the flies too! I flyfish with a normal brim rod Good report Otter! how did u get the kuttle fish? About the huttle fish, their life span is only 2years i've heard like squid. After they lay their eggs they die now its sporning time and from time to time you can catch one on the surface with net or gaff. Their very good to eat, their more tender then calimari. If you want to tenderise calamari you can go to the squid site. I've tried kiwi juice and it was great! awesome. what was the wind like out there today? big cuttlefish BTW, good score it was wind sheltered outside the north head, inside the wind was blowing from the west. James
mate well done on your caych once again. i beleive cuttlefish live alot shorter than that. im pretty sure they struggle to see the autunmn out. And for there meat its apparently tuff as guts and needs alot of tenderising to get it onto a plate. apparently alot of restaurants use it as squid once prepared correctly
Kingy
I've been lead to believe that "Calamari" is a marketing word the fisheries industry came up with to promote both squid and cuttlefish many years ago to the public. If you order Calamari in a restaraunt, you may be getting squid OR cuttlefish. Usually the cuttlefish (the larger ones) are served in square sections that have been cut across the surface and seared/cooked and you can tell by the thickness of the meat if it's a squid or cuttly. martinc
Fished the same day - launching at Manly at 9am. wind was up at 10-15 knots from south west & bloody cold. nailed a lonely little squid at Manly, and then trolled out around old mans hat. could see the salmon had been about - lots of birds, but no surface action - and zippo on the rapalas. Trolled to bluefish, then headed out and did a drift for 1 big blue mowong, undrsized snapper and flower pots. (along with the usural rubbish). Anchored up, and dropped the live squid for a legal king. Went home at 11:30 after the king.
