Mono

What do you guys reckon is the best mono. I like to replace my line every 12 months so don't want to go over the top. I have been using the yellow Penn line which is about $10.00 for 1,000 metres and hasn't let me down yet.

Few questions...

What line class? i.e. 6lb? 15kg?

Target species?

what outfit will it be going on?

should be able to offer some advice once that is sorted

I suppose that raises another question, what sort of set up should I use in Botany Bay. I have been drifting along the beach at Brighton for flatties in a little tinny and using 9lb mono with a size 3 ball sinker and a 1/0 long shank. Now I have a bigger boat and will be able to go as far as the heads I am wondering what sort of set up I should use. I have spinning reels and 6ft medium action rods.

All advice graciously accepted.

Hello mate,

Now i am by no means an expert when it comes to line choice - come to think of it i aint even an apprentice but.....

I only use mono & i have discovered taht every reel i have at home has pioneer flex on it - ranging from 6lb through to 20lb. If i can add 2 cents worth - this line is very strong.

i use that yellow penn :mariner: 30lb for my alvey but wouldn't put it on my spinner as its so stiff.... but my word its good value in comparison to other lines ... i'd replace mine more often than that as i fish near snags off rocks soft platicing and spinning for jew,,..i don't really think it matters so much as the leader you use as long as it never lets you down... and in three years or so..so far it hasn't..i'd want to use a clear line if i was fishing lighter tho i think..
