Richie
Hi everyone. I've been using Berkley Vanish for a couple of years now with my SP's. I tried a few knots (Uni, blood, surgeons, albright) for joining the leader to the gsp and settled on an Albright. I have never had a knot failure other than at the hook. Big claim, but true. I'm very happy here. On my fly gear... as a tippet... Berkley Vanish sux! It has no knot strength! No matter what knot I used. I used some Siglon in the same strength, and it was heaps better... I'm going to buy some Nitlon or Yamatoyo (spelling?) FC this weekend and try it out. Anyone else had a similar experience? What do the other fly guys use as their tippet? Cheers, Richie. Jewhunter
I use Nitlon but you have to check that your knots don't slip. Very tough though. Never let me down, although Tony would be able to give you plenty of options. Cheers, Grant.
drdonjuan9
the thicker berkley vanish is much harder to tie as it damages easily. Flurocarbon is more stiff than nylon. You just have to use less throws with the knot when using thicker leader. The thinner diam weem ok to me, 8 lb and downwards seems to tie fine. Richie
The main problem I had was the leader to tippet knot. It was 4lb, 8lb and 12lb Vanish that I was using. Even a 3 turn surgeons knot failed at hand strength. I still use Vanish on my SP rig. Vanish to Fireline using an albright works a charm. For my fly gear, I'm mainly using Yamatoyo FC. I use Siglon for my surface work. Cheers, Richie.
