Guest Big-Banana Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Hey Fellas, what a great great day. Got to the ramp at 6:15 (Kymeegah) Thought it was an unreal ramp btw. Ventured out to Browns at full pelt at 6:30am. Seas were flat with no breeze and swell was next to nothing. I had a feeling it might be "too perfect". Trolled for 10km before we hit Browns with no hits with a spread of 4 lures. Trolled around Browns for a while as well whilst looking at everyone on the way past. Looked pretty quiet and eventually stopped and began to cube. Got a good trail set out of all the traffic with no hits, did this for about 2 hrs and then relocated. Moved south of Browns where we began another trail for another 2 hours with no hits but was just enjoying the flat seas to really care. Didnt really expect to get anything on the first go out there and was just there for the experience. Followed everyones advices on cubing and trolling but couldnt seem to raise any fish. Trolled back to Browns agains where we encountered probably a 100m2 school of smallish Yellowfin. Had one hit but didnt hook up. Pretty pissed off with myself but kept going trying to raise another which we couldnt. Hit on a Purple Xmas tree. Was a bit northish of Browns where we had our last 2 blocks of Pillies and cubed very hard. Heard alot of radio chatter about being patient and they'll come so we stuck firm and at 3pm it finally happened on the smallest outfit I had running. A TLD20 with 15kg line (I had no idea they hit that hard). He was hooked and the fight began. Had a few boats laugh at me over the radio, I heard you bastards on the uhf about how long the fight was taking. I had over 100m out when he hit plus he took a long dive down. We saw colour 4 times and on the 4th we gaffed this 42kg fish. Everytime he saw the boat he dove down one more time. Totally stoked and gotta thank everyone who gave me advice when I asked for it. 1 and 1/2 hours later he was boated, bled and just fit in the kill tank. Just as well the old man bought a kidney harness and proper gimbal, cause Ive never been that sore. What a great fight it gave me and Itll be something Ill never forget. There was a lot of yahooing and some applause from the boat next to us who also hooked uped to a large fish but lost theirs. Tried for a few more but couldnt raise any more and came home at 4:30pm. Pays to be patient. But what a day. Thanks to all the fishraiders and cant wait to try land another on the charter next week and learn more. Enjoyed my beer extra that night Iam off to buy a 24kg outfit this week.
