namesay
We went out fishing for Kings yet again with my 2 little boys. Started very early in the morning and launched at Bayview. Heaps of boats there . Had no bait so used softies. I tied a 6 inch sluggo for my 6 year old to use. He is a proficent caster but had trouble with the retrieve so I slowly motored the boat to give the lure a bit more action. On his second cast there was a HUGE swirl and he hooked up solid. Nearly fell overboard on the 10kg gear. After a torrid battle he landed a 70cm kingfish. His first on a lure . Couldn't wait to get home to show mummy!!! We went and got a couple of live squid after that and landed a couple more. Finished fishing at 11 am. Another good day out with the little ones. Kept one fish for a feed and let the others go. Cheers Kelvin
OneLastCast
Sounds like a great session Kelvin. Your boy has done very well landing a 70cm king. They give the old fellas like us a bit of curry at times so to land one at the tender age of 6 is absolutely fantastic!

Martin
Kelvin, a big congrats to you little boy on his first Kingfish. I am sure its a moment he will long remember. Just like yourself, I take my young ones out, a boy and a girl. My son is 8 and been fishing with me since he was 5. He too caught his first kingfish in Pittwater when he was 6 also. Its great to see the dads fishing and getting the kids involved, I really enjoy my time with them and the things they discuss with you are amazing. Keep it up and hope you have a top season. Hope to see you on the water Cheers Martin

Viking
Well Done. We were out at Valiant Reef on Sat, no Kings, but Leatherjackets seemed to be everywhere. Very difficult to get the baits down whilst there around. Cheers.

namesay
I love taking my kids out fishing. When the little ones catch fish, it gives you more joy than the ones you catch yourself. The valiant has been plagued with leatherjakets for the last 4-5 months!!! They are like piranahs. These little pest just won't go away. They destroy your baits, rigs and even attack the fish you bring up A six year old on 10kg gear is pretty awesome but the modern gear certainly helps. I have a Daiwa certate 4000 with 10kg braid. It is EXTREMELY light and has an awesome drag. Matched with a light high modulus graphite rod you can cast it all day and subdue some really BIG fish with it. You can crank it like a deck winch. I used to let them use my Stella 20000 but it is too big for the little ones to handle on their own. Bad side is that it costs heaps! cheers Kelvin
