Guest Big-Banana
With the upcoming tuna and dollie season Iam keen to buy a light trolling outfit spooled with 10kg braid which can also be used for bottom bashing and fishing floaters. Iam stuck between the TLD 15 and the Charter Special. Never owned either of these reels and have heard plenty of good things about each. [ Maybe someone could guide me in the right direction? Or offer some thoughts on each reel etc? Maybe a different reel? Any replies would be appreciated fellas! Sammy0884
Hi there, i have used both reels extensively with great results, the charter special is a great reel, the main differences between the two is the Charter special has level wind, which is a great feature for bottom bashing, but is has less line capacity compared to the TLD15... I have caught dollies, kings and stripies on both reels, i would say that the TLD is more suited to fishing heavier drag settings for tuna and kings without the levelwind feature, but the Charter special is a pleasure to bottom bash with. Guest IFishSick.
I personally have the charter special and have so for 2 years and am very happy with it. though the drag is not powerful enough for a decent sized Tuna or larger.
netic
I would go the Tekota 600, great little reel and it can handle some biigger fish, the tekota series would have to be some of the best trolling reels around.
Guest danielinbyron
we use tld 25s best bang for the buck hold 600 0f 15kg .. check for specials at super a mart sports or mos..... they change month to month but around $170...
Heath
Given the fish you are targeting, I would go the TLD20 or TLD25. Your arms will love you by the end of the day & you got the capasity there to handle anything big that should come along.
Guest Big-Banana
Yeah Ive got a few 20's, 25, 30 and a 50. Iam looking to downsize a bit for some fun. Iam liking the smaller TLD because of line capacity although the level wind of the charter special also looks appealing.

Used it for the first time on saturday and its looks good. Although i didnt catch anything i was still impressed with line retrieval. The level wind does seem very weak however, and thats about the only thing i can see wrong with it.

Guest Big-Banana
Mate Iam thinking 20lb Tuf Line or Fins? I love Tuf line although the fins stuff is supposed to be great. Now what rod to buy for it???
Sammy0884
Go the fins! as for a rod, i would recomend a Shimano backbone elite 7 foot boat, rated for 6-10kg... around $100 Edited October 12, 2006 by Sammy0884
