bullfrog
I popped in to my local K-Mart at North Rocks tonight to buy some blank video tapes & was surprised to see that they now carry a reasonably large range of boat parts (ropes, anchors, lights, fuel lines, bearings, marine batteries & radios etc.). This is in an isle which used to stock sporting gear, most of which has now dissapeared. The majority of the boating gear is under the name Platinum (made in China/Taiwan), but there are also some well known brands. Quality wise, it seems to be quite good and I am wondering if anyone has seen it & what their opinon is.
Guest bluecod
Hey Jeramiah, Nth Rocks is one of my local K-Marts as well and having them stock boat parts is an interesting diversion - I hope they don't think they can give Bias at Barney Street a run for their money. I'll have to drop in over the weekend and have a look.
Guest MarkD
Wacko/Bullfrog, Going slightly off the point so please indulge me... I buy all my fishing gear in Otto's as the service is great and i usually end up having a chat with the staff and have got good tips on locations and methods etc. Also they usually give me a couple of bucks off I'f I'm spending over a $100 or so and come to think of it they gave me 3 packs of jig heads for free at the fishing show, which aint bad.. When it comes to boat gear the staff at my local shop in Drummoyne, in my experience, are less than helpful and at times condescending. Just my experience mind you and maybe I've been unlucky in who has served me.. As a result I started to use Bias and have found them to be much better. But if presented with identical products at different prices would I be willing to pay a premium?? I guess it depends on how much and therefore would be done on a case by case basis... Sorry to hijack your post Bullfrog but would be interested in others views on this Cheers Mark Why support K-mart when Bias boating down the road will give you better advice and probably better products???Do you buy fishing tackle at Kmart too?? Wacko. 15470[/snapback] Hi Wacko, I think you will find a lot of people buy gear from K/Mart and Big/W. I would rather pay $22 than $29 for Fireline, they also sell many brand names the same as you local tackle shops do and cheaper. A lot of people also live on budgets so they do not have extra money like some of us to buy exspensive brand rods and reels, but they still have fun with it and catch the same fish, IMHO there is nothing wrong with buying from these stores. bullfrog
Maybe K-Mart's prices aren't so hot after all. They have the GME GX 294 transceiver for $159, where Whitworths are selling it for $154.90 - according to their latest catalogue which ends on November 5. I don't know how much Bias sell it for as I don't have one of their catalogues unfortunately.
