1975
just wondering, is it better to put braid on the metal reel spool or the graphite spare one? does it matter, thought i read somewhere that braid wears out graphite spools. thanks 1975
namesay
Graphite spools are bad news full stop. Not just for braid but for anything. If you fish fairly heavy gear then you should discard the graphite spare spool. Cheers kELVIN
Blood Knot
1975 - IMO Put it on the metal spool, a lot of reel manufacturers offer spare spools in graphite (unless you are puchasing at the high end of the market and even then you may not get a spare metal spool). The graphite spools are generally pretty poor in comparison to the metal ones (but they usually have identical drag washer setup which is handy if you stuff up the ones on your metal spool). The metal one will be heaps more slippery over its lip and as such will offer less drag to the line etc ie : longer casting. John
namesay
Have a look at your graphite spool after you have wound in some braid with 10kg of drag on it. You'll see it warp and distort....not good. Cheers Kelvin
1975
thanks fellas, i'll pass that info to my brother. Can i assume its ok for mono or should he not bother and just keep the graphite for spare parts? thanks billy
