1 Tighten the drag

2 Light hose, soapy sponge over the rod and reel

3 Light hose again, not too much pressure or you'll blow salt into the reel

4 Leave to dry

mate i just use fresh water. Rinse them off with a hose running slowly so as not to push any salt that may be there into the reel. I sometimes add a bit of reel grease to various parts on occasions.

Simple but works for me..

Ben

And give em a wipe with a rag to knock off any heavier crap

Are you gonna downrig with that outfit? I find the jigwrex rods are too short and miss a LOT of strikes. Cheers Kelvin

that was the plan..

although if thats the case that gives me the chanec of buying another rod hehehe

blue water series 7'5 is that what u suggest?

I LOVE the bluewater series for downrigging. The shorter rods have a hard time hooking fish when downrigging unless the king really smashes the bait. They just don'thave enough length to help drive the hooks home when sitting in a rod holder. You'll pin most of the fish with the jigwrex but you'll miss some of the fish which are shy.

Normally these are the HOODS!!!!!

Just ask 445F about his short rod and the missed strike he had a couple of days ago fishing with me. This fish was big enough to swallow a large sized squid WHOLE but we missed it on BOTH hooks. I normally find that a fish big enough to do that is atleast 90cm.

445F has become a bit of an apprentice and he is learning quick!!! But I am still leading the bait catching tally..by a WIDE margin. WE have had debates on hooks and hook sizes. I like to fit the BIGGEST hook that will fit into a fish's mouth but 445F likes small hooks and chose the small trebles...and missed a really good fish!!

I never use my jig type rods for downrigging. OK for standard trolling and other livebaiting but NEVER on a downrigger . Over the years I have missed too many good strikes. Cheers Kelvin

There is a spray called TACKLE GUARD which retails for $8.00 a tin. You rinse off your reels with fresh water and then you spray tackle guard which will not affect your fishing line or damage your fishing line.

Aussieraider,

Regardless of what Penn recommend I would never spray WD40 onto any reels.

Penn recommend washng their gear in fresh water then a light spray of WD40 or their specialist spray after every use - sounds simple and effective to me.

I wouldnt recommend spraying WD40 on reels, invest in a tin of tackle guard for $8.00 and your reels will last a life time.

cheers
