Today i meet up with Steve (outwide) and his mate Geroge who is also a Fishraider member for a hopeful marlin session, after high expectations from last outing where we had a striped marlin next to the boat we where pupmed to hook into 1 or 2.

We launched into sydney harbour and firstly loaded up with some lives (yakkas) and headed out the heads with the plan of darting out to the waver rider and then trolling to 12 mile as we got through the heads we where greeted with heavy rain black sky and 1.0 m + chop so things werent lloking promiseing.

We pushed out to the waverider and couldnt see anything there, set out the big stuff and trolled to the 12 mile. We left the bouy in 19.5 degrees and arrived at the 12 mile in 22.8 degree water (things where looking good)

We arrivea at the 12 mile without a touch or a sighting and our plan was to drop some livies down for some big kings burt we were un able to find bottom and the current was screaming so that plan was canned the big stuff was left out and we set a course to the BB wide FAD for some dollies if there where around, we trolled out to the FAD for nothing where it was a delicious 23.0 degrees we said to each other we are going to be on here first pass of the FAD and we cpould see the dollies, pulled the big gear in and drifted pass the FAD with yakkas out, Steve lent me is rod (tekota) to use and Geroge was using the my Spheros (as he is now in love with it, give me a tiagra anyday)

First my livie takes a scare and then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz line starts peeling off the Tekoto back towards the FAD steve looks at the reel tightening the drag (as he thought it was in free spool) then realising that the drag is locked up he looks at me and sayes...........GOOD FISH

After the intinal run i turned the fish and made a meter or 2 of line before he was off again at this stage we got our first look at him as he leaped out the water.... Bull, after a good 10-15 min fight and a great gaffing by steve my PB dolly hit the deck coming in at 10.5 KG.

After a couple of minutes off excitment about the fish it was bleeed and iced and we were back in position again, this time as i was feeding the line out and it startes feeding itself into strike and the reel is off again i pass the rod over to steve to tussel this one out this was a female and she was hell bent on getting back to that FAD, after a similar length fight and a not so pretty landing of the fish with it running steve allround the boat it hit the deck a 9.5kg specimen same thing lines got back out this time the same rod goes off again and this time geroge is the one doing battle after a short fight a 2.5kg model is also boated.

Same again fellas as we got the boat into postion the current changed direction and the fish went off the bite, we could still see a few big fellas swimming around but they where no longer interested in our bait, so we set the spread trolled into the close FAD for zip, there where a few boats working the FAD but no fish insight, trolled back towards the heads in 22.8 degree water for nothing.

Spheros still yet to land a fish

All day we were in great blue water but no marlin to be seen heard 1 report of a boat hook up 5 km south of the peak but dropped, apart from that very quiet, and no bait or birds to be seen in the water.

Anyway i will be out there again soon hunting down the Elusive Marlin

Great company and great weather on the water thank for coming lads hope to do it again soon.

Saw offtaps new BEAST and gee is it a smart looking rig, congrats mate on a great ride, should have taken a photo but was a little worried getting to close didnt want to ding his new ride :1prop::1prop::1prop:

Cheers

Iain

We were targeting marlin mate so, even though they were awsome not the target, the current was still roaring had the bulb at the bottom under, all you could see was the cross

Mate great fish, Cant complain with that..well done, was wondering how you guys went

We dropped a marlin....got hit was real excited had it on for 30 seconds but then it spat the hooks...spewing

If you heard the chatter about "Team Turks" it was us they were talking about.

We have unofficially been given that name by the charter blokes, Our radio was down but we were on the phone to the charter guys getting advice on how to bring him up again, Im sure they would have been discussing our miss opportunity on the radio

thats some solid fish there!

mate the way i see it is you go troll for game fish... if you get a marlin its a bi-pass...

we targeted marlin for 2 weeks at the banks last year got a couple of touches but no fish.

We got our first in winter trolling lures for yellow fin at browns... and didnt get a fin noting that we went to browns 6 times and worked hard on cubes and lures.

so the way i see it is you take what the big blue offers!!

Ian

Thanks again for a great day on the water. As this is my first post on fishraider, what better way to enter the forum with some nice dollies.

Bad luck on the marlin this time around, but we will certainly get amongst them this season.

As for the spheros, we will have to christen it next time.

Kind regards

George (georgeseafarer)

No worries mate anytime was still a good day on the water, i think the spheros is just saving itself for an absolute monster

I hope you are right about the marlin, if not ill have fun trying if the dollies keep showing us, think it was a little unfair of me to call them a bi-catch

Bull dollies are definately not bicatches. Trust me. The small ones are easier to catch than the bulls. Besides, catching dollies is great fun when the marlin are not around.

Steve and I would love to christen your boat with a nice marlin soon.

George
