hey guys,

as planned,we went out to see if we can get onto that jewie we lost on tuesday night.this time we where ready,we had all the big ready to go.we started off at west head to get some livies, they where there in there hundreds,we caught 20 in about 10 mins,at least we now know how to catch them in bulk[Cant wait for the dollies to start so we can stock up on livies]anyway, we decided to try to get some tailor ,but they just didnt wont to play.we trolled in between lion island and the light house, and boy was the water messy, there was chop everywhere and sea pushing 1.5 to 2meters.after trolling around for 20 mins and no action,we decided to hit jewie spot number 1.we get there to be meet by strong winds and no running current in the water.as the boat keep going around in circles ,we decided to get the sea anchor out ,which didnt help.after an of trying to fish this one spot, we gave up ,and moved to jewie spot number 2.we get there to be meet by live bait jumping every where,in the past that usaully means tonights our night.we get 6 lines out and the waiting game begins.the water really flattened out, and the sky looked like they where going to open up on us.we had the worst lightening show you can only image.anyway the tide was about to turn ,zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and of goes the baitrunner, after 2 minutes of fighting, we land this jew that went about 4 kg ,approx.75cm .better than nothing.as the lightenig got closer ,we decided to call it a night, we where out of the water by 9pm.we didnt get the chance to use the big gear, never mind, will post pics once i work it how.i was just wondering, are shovel nose sharks good eating,if so, how do you cook, the reason i ask is because we caught 1 about a meter long and throw it back

well done on the jewie, just a shame you couldnt find the big fellow you lost.

if i can ask you a question. when you use your live baits, what sort of set up do you use for them, eg trace and sinker sizes.

Hey Mate

To answer your question on how to cook shovelnose. Fillet like a flathead an cook however you like,,, genereally add herbs an spices though, as by themselves they are a lil bland for my taste. They are great fish for your kids, as if you fillet them,,,, there is virtually no bones what-so ever

Last one I took when I opened it up stank! And I learnt very quickly not to take em unless its in a VERYYYYYY VERY tidal system! Port Stephens has 100's of theses buggers an the japanese tourists love em
