Weekend Sydney Trip

Well another land based adventure went out the window saturday courtesy of wind and swell. Have had very little landbased livebating or spin trips this summer season. Hitched a ride out on a boat Sunday though with conditions meant to be better. Well, cant say the swell predictions out wide was quite what we expected. They must have meant one meter swell bigger than Saturday. Not much at the FAD with 18c water so came back to the coast. 19.5 in close and later on the swell flattened off perfectly.

One yakka on a downrigger and another out the back..wasnt long before we picked up some action on the sounder and it was on.....over the next few hours my friend managed one solid keeper king of several kilos, and I landed rats on yakkas and sluggos....My poor yakka was a football for a while as the kings bounced him around but didnt take. So the sluggos and my home coloured jig heads did the trick. Also picked up a bonnie on the sluggo. Had the sluggo by the side of the boat while I was steering and watching my friend adjust the downrigger, when it was smashed by a rat that nearly pulled thr rod from my hand . My stocks of white did take a pounding....on the way back later in the arvo we saw some birds and surface action in the harbour so flicked the remaining 9inch white out , and 2 casts later I retrieved half a sluggo after a hit. I called it for tailor but turned out to be bonnies. Swapped the penn 850 for the crappy combo I use for squidding and collecting live bait, flicked a 25gram sniper out, and had it followed and hammered by a rat king...hmm..4 kilo line and a rod that bends literally in half was a lot of fun and a $40 reel screaming its drags off too. After a while, long while, up came a 55cm rat again.....we chased them around picked up another rat king and a tailor that threw the lure at the boat. So we had quite a long day and lots of spinning action. Awesome fun, and hopefully the water temps will stabilise out wide for even more consistent action at the FADs.....

I was keeping that under our hat for next time .....but yep, had a marlin fin past us on the surface....nothing was going on at the FAD so we were floating around thinking of what to do, when Chris calls marlin....and Im thinking what the !!. Turned and there it was on the other side ....rigged up and trolled but no joy.

Would have been interesting getting it into the boat if we had wanted to keep it with the swell.....
