E_Cura Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Hi All I'm new to this site, what a site though, i've just sat here reading the reports for the last two hours. I've only been in Aus for 18 months and am new to this style of fishing. But I LOVE IT I'm desperate to catch a keeper Jew but have had no luck on the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn only a few soapies. I've tried Juno Point, The Bridges, The Vines & Mooney Mooney Creek. I'd try flint & steal but dont have gps and dont know how to find it. If anyone has any suggestions for locations & methods/rigs baits etc i would be really grateful. I cant wait to start posting some of my own cathces Cheers Magotbasher

kevvie Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 to the site maggot. When i read your post it reminded me of my first post. I wanted to know where all the big jew were in Botany Bay seeing as i had hardly fished that side of sydney. I guess in hindsight it was no surprise to find out that members were a little reluctant to assist me when on my first post i wanted them to reveal years of experience. Luckily now after a few years i feel a little more confident to ask. The spots that you mentioned should hold jew. Maybe look to your bait as a possible hinderence. As the saying goes fresh is best. Catch your own bait to assure freshness. The only bait i buy is squid; straight off the trawlers. This works awesome on Hbury jew. Try run in tide at dusk at Juno you will eventually hook one. In regard to live bait see my response to the post 'Livies' in fishing chat for pointers.... Good luck mate....lets us know when you hook your Moby Dick

Martin Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 I hope this helps you a little. Flint and Steel seems to work best on an out going tide even with some run in it. Keep to the easter side of the Port Marker and use you sounder to find bottom that looks promising. Juno is good on the last of both sides of high tide. There is not exact sopt at Juno, however the is a yellow marker and if you a a little wide of it to the west of it, then thats a popular anchoring area. Live squid are number one if you can get them. Day or night works , however my confidence seems to favour from dusk on wards Guyna Point is another spot just to the northern side of the point. Beaware that the eels also seem to like this sopt and you do get snagged ever now and then as well. Keep from 12m to 20m out from the shore line. You can be in anything from 38 to 54 feet deep Best baits are live squid, fresh dead squid, whole dead fish, live bait fish and butterfly dead fish. Ensure ther is plenty of hook showing and that the hook can not turn back into the bait. I am far from an expert and have little time to put the hours in, however I have had some success and am still looking for a 20kg specimen Good luck Cheers

I nailed a nice Jew down Smiths Creek last week. To tell the truth I would have preferred to fish Juno that night , however the wind would have blown a brown dog of its lead and my daughter got a bit scared as we were staying the night. My sounder packed it in so we put the boat down Smiths Creek and over a hole using the map and a few landmarks. I think that the advice you were given is spot on. Look at your bait quality and presentation. Welcome aboard, I'll grab your email as I'm in the Hawkesbury most weekends................. if allowed
