Rusty
Hi all, having a few dramas with the radio. While turned on I can hear other boaties and coastal patrol but the last couple of times I tryed to log in I got no response. I tried to test against another boat the other day he could he me but I could not hear him wich seems to be the opposite of what happens on the water. The radio was in the boat when i bought it 15 months ago and I dont know if it is not working properly or I dont have the settings correct. It is a 27mhz GME CX290 If it turns out to be stuffed should I replace it with 27mhz or go to UHF.
tyrone07
Ive got both but we went to vhf because our 27mhz didnt work very good. We also got ours because we do alot of outside fishing. Depends what your doing vhf if your doing a lot of outside work though.
Guest Big-Banana
Ive got both on the boat but never use them. They always work when I do use them to hear stuff when the fishings slow. Good to have.
Rusty
Thanks, I dont know much about them but it is on ch88. I havnt been able to work out exactly what it does, the last time I tryed to log on to Port Stephens from Nelson Bay and then again from a couple of ks outside the heads. In both spots I can hear there conversations with other boats but they dont seem to be able to hear me. The only time I want to use the radio is when fishing outside the heads Is VHF clearer or does it have better range or both.
tyrone07
Yeh go vhf if your outside. You will need to get a new aerial but it is crystal clear on ours. You can also get weather reports on the water. We havent had a problem with it and we fish outside a fair bit.
bullfrog
Please bear in mind that in NSW you will need a licence to operate a VHF radio.
