Hi all, let me start by congratulating and thanking you all for an amazing forum, the amount of information and collective knowledge is astounding, and there seems to be a fantastic sense of community well done and keep it up :clapping: i am looking forward to getting to know more about the raiders and fishing and boating.

now my question? i am planning to hire a boat from Darren from trailerboat hire in the next couple of weeks but because deliveries are not available on weekdays will be launching at church point and fishing pittwater. I have never fished in pittwater or the any part of the hawkesbury so would appreciate any rough ideas of fishing spots or styles i have not been fishing for quite some time (since getting married and having kids 10 years ago) and my mate makes me look like an expert so even yellowtail would get us excited. I appreciate any tips.

Thank you

Arif

:1welcomeani: to the site arif.

Not familiar with Pittwater and the surrounding areas but I'm sure other Raiders will be able to help out. Hope you'll be able to put up a report and share the experience. I'm a land based fisho and have been toying around with the idea of hiring Darren's boat one of these days so I'm keen to see how you go.

G'day Arif and :1welcomeani: to the site. The community spirit is alive and well here at Fishraider and members more than willing to share experiences and hints with other Raiders.

You will be pleased with Darren's boats as they are comfy and safe and have just about everything you will need for a good day's fishing.

I guess you need to work out a target species and have the gear to best target them.

If you are just going to bottom bash..that's good too.

If you want to collect some livies (yakkas)..I suggest West Head just off the pillbox...there's squid to be had there too.

Don't forget, Darren's boats have downriggers and sounders on them, so if you are going for kingies, that's a good way to target them.

It may pay you to do a search in the search function on the site on downriggers if you've never used one before.

You can also target flatties on the drift if that's what you prefer..The best spot for first timers is probably at the back side of Palm Beach and drift anong the fairly shallow waters there.

Some of the small coves and bays in Pittwater can produce some palagics linke Bonito so take a lure or two along with you. Look for and bird action and bust-ups as you travel throughout Pittwater as they are the dead giveaway that some surface activity is around. Maybe tailor..always fun to catch.

Trolling around moored boats is always a good prospect too as you'll often find good bream and even kingies Lurking under moorings.

Darren should supply you with a Pittwater map with the boat..he usually does, so that will be helpful.

Pittwater is a fairly vast area and depending on the day, can produce some good catches. It's just a matter of looking for good structure on the bottom...that's where the sounder comes into it's own..as fish love structure.

One other thing...I presume you have a boat licence as you will need one before hiring Darren's boats as they are powered by 30 HP Suzukis and go well over 10 knots, thereby the need for a licence.

I probably won't be able to accompany you as I have just returned to part time work after some medical problems, but If you are going with a mate, I'm sure you will have a productive and fun day on the water.

Bayview boat ramp is another good location to launch but I guess it's where you feel comfy with launching more than anything else.

Feel free to drop me a PM or post here if you have any other questions.

You'll have a great time I'm sure and Darren is a top bloke who will give you a good briefing on every aspect of the boat and it's equipment and safety etc. What he doesn't know about boats is not worth knowing...He's been around boats for a long time and knows 'em inside out. He's a great Fishraider sponsor and looks after Raiders..make sure he knows you are a member.

Sorry for the long winded post...

Cheers,

Pete.

That sounds great, i have a lot to learn and would love to benefit from your experience. I will keep an eye on "fishing trips" (though i seem to be keeping an eye on everything my wife keeps checking to make sure its not porn that has me so engrossed) thank you
