STOCK Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Hi guys, What are your thaughts for line size and type for beach fishing chasing jewies with whole yakkas and squid? Ive just bought a penn captiva cv8000 and some hercules 80Lb braid and am thinking i went a little overboard with the line size, afterall there are no snags at the beach to give me reason to have to reef the jewie outa water?
Guest Big-Banana Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I've always had tortue on all my beach and rock reels. Maxima is also really good stuff. Never bothered with braid off the beach.
TheDiko Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 80lb braid is far too much for off the beach, if you're going for Jewies you don't need any more than 20lb line. This is thinner and will give a much greater cast. My mate has that reel in 4000 and it seems worth the money, only thing is it doesn't lay the line Super Slow so there is a reduction in the cast there aswell. IFS
Davy Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Ive pretty much just been introduced to beach fishing through the social, but starting to get the hang of it now. i might get into trouble for suggesting this , but even at the beach i like to fish as light as possible. i only use 12 pound platypus line, and maybe 20 -30 pound leader on a cheapo Daiwa crossfire 4000. it does the trick for me, its handled salmon and biggish tailor just fine. i love it! havnt been out at the beach enough to get busted off by something bigger yet, but when i do, i might upgrade Cheers Davy
STOCK Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 Bugger =/ i had a feeling 80lb braid was going a bit too far (i have a habit of overkill when it comes to lines). Looks like ill need to find the receipt and swop for somthing lighter, quite a lot lighter
shane87 Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Best to stay away from braid on the beach particularly with jew. Having no stretch can become a real problem when trying to wash a good jew up the beach. You will find that you will pull the hooks on to many fish using braid on the beach. Cheers Shane.
