zrealist Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 did it take you long to clean those? i find it quite hard to clean leatherjackets.
Frantic Posted May 30, 2007 Author Posted May 30, 2007 Nope they take about 15 seconds to clean as they havent got much guts in them, just start a cut from behind the big spike on there head and down towards the rear of the gut cavity. Then lift the skin from around the cut area with your fingers and pull towards the tail, most of it will come off in the one motion. It seems they love squid and we just ran out of bait .We threw back about 20 odd as they were just too small. In 40m of water the mid water was full of smaller ones but if your bait could get down to about 30m you'd get into a few bigger ones. My brother and i cleaned and skinned more than 30 in about 10 minutes. I'll be out there again this weekend to try and deplete the population .lol
