gness Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 I have a Daiwa Laguna which I bought not long ago and have used it about a dozen times. After each session I'd tighten the drag, give it a quick rinse and then loosen up the drag again once dry. Recently, I've noticed that the drag knob has been getting harder and harder to turn either to loosen or to tighten it. Has anyone had this problem before or know how to fix it? Cheers

Cheers ]The only thing I can think of is there is something wrong with the thread on the drag knob or the shaft. Check both. It may be dirty/clogged or cross threaded which means you have to replace the damaged part.
Jeff Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 The Lagunas don't have a waterproof drag. If you just let the water sit there until it evaporates, its likely to start corroding things. I suggest you undo the drag knob after washing and soak up any water with a piece of soft rag or chux. You can then inspect things and replace any lubricant. If you lift the spool off the shaft you will probably find water under the spool as well. You should also spray the line roller bearing with Inox. Cheers, Jeff
TheDiko Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Spray the crap out of it with Inox! I never rinse my eggbeaters, just give them a wipe down with a damp cloth as the water sits in all the little moving parts of the reel. I've had water sit in the top of the spool for over 1 week which was when I stopped rinsing them. IFS
gretsch Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Sometimes some crap gets into the threaded (female) section of the drag knob. get a kero soaked cotton bud up there and clean it out. I too don't hose or soak my reels. Just a little kitchen brush and som warm soapy water over the exterior then a wipe down with a Chux. If the thread is crossed, you will need a new spindle or drag knob or both depending on which bit is stripped. To tell if it is stripped, look really closely at the thread. If id has flattened spots where there should be sharp ridges, you are in some poo and will need to replace the parts.
gness Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 Thanks for the replies guys, turns out that there was some gunk in the drag knob threading. I cleaned it out and it's working like new now
PM79 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I spray my reels down but with a spray bottle so the pressure is very minimal and then I wipe down and Inox, works a treat.
