gretsch Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I just got a couple of spools of Nitlon PE 6 and 10 lb.. Anyone used this stuff? I looks the goods.
Jewhunter Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I'm not sold on it yet ceph. I couldn't get a knot to hold in the 4lb so replaced it with 8lb. It seems fine & then out of nowhere it breaks at the knot on the cast. In saying that I've got mates that swear by it. It casts great & no wind knots but seems to cut into the leader after a while. Give it a go & see how it holds up. Cheers, Grant.

Jewhunter Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks Jewhunter... What knot were you using to tie the leader to the PE? I normally use an albright with a difference or a double uni. Mate I tried them all. Bimini twist with a "ducknose" or yucatan knot, straight uni to uni, blood to blood, improved albright & surgeons knot. They all did the same thing. The ducknose lasted the longest followed by the allbright. Cheers, Grant.
caranx Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Ive tried some light stuff from Nitlon too, and cant say I like it yet....I have another 2500 reel with fins which works a treat but Im having all kinds of problems with the nitlon. Im going to strip it off and respool in case I didnt get it on ok, but not sure . I also had knot issues or line breaking that I hadnt with fins. Maybe a crap batch...
gretsch Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Not good news.. should I take it back now rather than persevere? My brother uses Fins and loves it..
TheDiko Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I've used the 15lb stuff, twice. Casts quite well and to me the line looked perfect in the shape and the way it had been woven. Had no problems with knots etc. I would change it if no one else seems to like it, the good ol' FINS has never let me down. IFS
Jewhunter Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I wouldn't trust it. Maybe I should go to Fins as well! Cheers, Grant.
crystalliser Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Linesystem Bass Hard, I've never looked back. Btw, which Nitlon PE u're referring to? The only one I saw just had 16lb as the lightest.
gretsch Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 It is just called Nitlon PE. The line is blue in colour. I assume it is the same as the yellow stuff. I am worried that it will be like Sufix braid in the lighter gauges.. no knot strength at all.

Got some 6lb of that the other day. Looks awsome on my Symetre, the orange really goes well with the reel. Trying it out on the weekend IFS
gretsch Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I tested the Nitlon last night. I tied four leaders using the same knot (single strand improved albright). It is super strong. I was using the 6lb. It took all my strength and a nasty line cut to break the length and, it broke in the flouro carbon leader about 25mm from the knot. I am impressed.
TheDiko Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Well there you go. You got a good batch obviously, now time to test it on some Pocket Rockets IFS
