Lucky salmon catch costs man $2,500

An Adelaide man visiting South Australia's west coast has had what is being described as the world's most expensive salmon meal.

The Hillbank man was offered a $10 ticket to enter the Australian Salmon Fishing Championships.

But he declined, saying he was a novice fisherman.

Competition organiser Troy Taylor says it is a decision the man is now regretting, after he caught a "monster" that would easily have won him the $2,500 competition.

"[He] took a photo of the fish, cut it up, cooked it and ate it...a $2,500 meal," he said.

"Everybody's having a bit of a laugh at him, and now they've bought a salmon competition ticket and they've already had their shot."
