etay
Just use a hacksaw a nd file the end down till it's smooth. Take a burl cork or EVA ring and glue it onto the end and cut around and sand off into the shape you want. Be careful though, as you will change the balance of the rod by removing a significant portion of the butt. the rod will become more "tip heavy"
gretsch
You can get a Matagi weghted butt cap which fits into a threaded ferrule. You cut the butt off at the desired length, glue the ferrule in, screw the butt cap on with sufficient weight to rebalance the rod and turn down the cork grip to suit the 29mm OD.
